Coach Ten Hag and his colleagues are worried about the lack of quality goalkeepers when number 1 goalkeeper Andre Onana attends the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) early next year.

MU leaders did not expect the prospect of Onana returning to play for Cameroon despite having previously announced his retirement from international football.

Afcon will take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024. This means Andre Onana could miss eight of MU's matches in the early stages of next year.

For that reason, the Red Devils' coaching staff is ready to invite De Gea back to Old Trafford, just 3 months after terminating the contract with the Spanish goalkeeper.

David de Gea spent 12 years at MU before leaving. Since then, he has not played for any other team.

Initially, the bosses at Old Trafford offered De Gea to stay, with his salary reduced from £375,000/week to £200,000/week. But in the end, the deal was not approved by both parties.

Surprisingly, MU also asked De Gea not to join another club until they completed the Onana transfer deal.

This is considered a bad way for the club to treat a veteran who has served MU for a long time and just won the Golden Glove in the Premier League.

Captain Bruno Fernandes and a few MU players recently met and had dinner with De Gea in Manchester. They expressed regret that the Spanish goalkeeper has not yet found a suitable destination.

If he accepts a short-term deal until the end of the 2023/24 season, De Gea will reunite with his former teammates and coach Erik ten Hag.
