Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade: The impact of adjusting electricity prices every two months needs to be clearly assessed.

ANTD.VN - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan requested the Electricity Regulatory Authority to clearly assess the impact of the current three-monthly electricity price adjustment cycle and propose a two-monthly adjustment cycle.

We are currently studying the option of adjusting electricity prices every two months.

This afternoon (January 7, 2025), the Ministry of Industry and Trade held its regular quarterly press conference for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Regarding the proposal to adjust electricity prices every two months, which is currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Nguyen The Huu, Deputy Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority, said that the regulations for adjusting the average retail electricity price have been in place for some time.

According to Decision 05/2024/QD-TTg issued by the Prime Minister , which regulates the mechanism for adjusting the average retail electricity price, the adjustment cycle for the average retail electricity price has been reduced from 6 months to 3 months.

Currently, the Electricity Regulatory Authority is tasked by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with developing this mechanism. The Authority proposes adjusting prices every two months. "The draft is still under review by various units, especially those most affected."

After gathering feedback, the Department will compile a report for the Ministry's leadership. The draft Decree will take effect concurrently with the amended Electricity Law recently passed by the National Assembly , i.e., from February 1, 2025.”

Elaborating on this proposal, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that the proposal to change the adjustment cycle for the average retail electricity price is a market-driven issue.

“There is still much to be studied. I suggest that the Electricity Regulatory Authority conduct research and clearly assess the impact of adjusting retail prices every two months versus every three months, in order to compare and find the most reasonable approach,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized.
