On the evening of March 23, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the construction of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project.
According to the report of the My Thuan Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport), the site clearance work for the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project has handed over 16.94/17.6km, reaching 96.25% of the entire route. Of which, Ben Tre has handed over 9.65/9.65km, while Tien Giang province has handed over 7.29/7.95km, reaching about 91.7%.
In Tien Giang province, there are still 96 households with undelivered construction sites, while in Ben Tre province, the construction sites have basically been fully handed over.
Regarding the relocation of technical infrastructure, the medium and low voltage power lines and the 110kV high voltage power line (at Km0+240) in Tien Giang province are expected to be relocated in the first quarter of 2024, while in Ben Tre province there are 2 high voltage power locations, expected to be completed in April 2024. To date, the total construction progress of the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project has reached 41.15%.
In his speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts of relevant agencies and localities, and contractors who have increasingly gained experience and improved their capacity; thanked the team of cadres, workers, and laborers at the construction site for their efforts in the spirit of "3 shifts", "eating quickly, sleeping urgently", "only discussing work, not backtracking", working through holidays and Tet.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested investors, localities, and contractors to continue to make more efforts and be more responsible in implementing the project, ensuring progress, quality, safety, environmental sanitation, techniques, aesthetics, preventing negativity and waste; effectively disbursing public investment capital, contributing to promoting growth, creating jobs for people and completing the transport infrastructure of the two provinces of Ben Tre and Tien Giang, of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. At the same time, he requested leaders of localities with key infrastructure projects passing through to always pay attention to and do a good job of site clearance and encourage and promote the progress of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project.
Up to now, the site clearance work has been basically completed, the procedures have been completed, the Prime Minister requested the investor to make a plan, strive to speed up the progress by 3 months, complete the Rach Mieu 2 bridge project on the occasion of National Day September 2, 2025, meeting the people's expectations.
Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the Go Cong sea dike, which has a total length of 21km. Of which, more than 6.8km of offshore wave reduction dike has not been invested.
After listening to reports and proposals from ministries, branches and Tien Giang province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that this is a very important dike line, investing in nearly 7km of offshore wave reduction dike line is very necessary to prevent increasingly serious coastal erosion, ensure the safety of life and property of about 600,000 households and state property, and protect nearly 54,000 hectares of natural land, including about 43,000 hectares of cultivated land of 4 coastal districts and towns.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to urgently arrange capital for this important project, including studying the use of reserve funds for 2024.
Surveying the planned location for the construction of a seaport and a sea area restoration area in Go Cong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the idea of expanding this development space; requested Tien Giang province to coordinate with relevant sectors and agencies to develop a specific plan and project to submit to competent authorities for consideration.
