According to Al Jazeera, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on December 2 that an agreement with Syria was possible, emphasizing the desire that the Syrian government would establish a demilitarized buffer zone stretching from Damascus to Jabal al-Sheikh, which Israel currently occupies.
"What we expect Syria to do is to establish a demilitarized buffer zone from Damascus to the Jabal al-Sheikh area, including the entrances to Mount Hermon and Mount Hermon. We protect these areas to ensure the security of the Israeli people and that is our obligation," said Prime Minister Netanyahu, who used the Israeli name Jabal al-Sheikh to refer to the mountain.

“With good will and understanding of these principles, we can reach an agreement with Syria, but in any case, we will remain committed to our principles,” Netanyahu added.
Prime Minister Netanyahu's comments came a day after US President Donald Trump said he wanted both Syria and Israel to "have a long and prosperous relationship together".
Talks on a security deal between Israel and Syria have been ongoing for months, but appear to have made little progress in recent weeks.
Israel has repeatedly attacked Syria over the past year, despite the new government in Damascus insisting it does not want war. Most recently, an Israeli attack last week killed 13 people in the town of Beit Jinn, southwest of Damascus.
