According to the plan, Japanese Prime Minister and President of the European Council Charles Michel, along with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, are scheduled to meet on July 13th.

At the upcoming EU summit, Mr. Kishida reaffirmed Japan's position on the "inseparable" relationship between European security and Indo- Pacific regional security.

In particular, Japanese and EU leaders are expected to affirm their unity of stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as seek consensus on China's new moves.

In addition, the two sides will discuss lifting EU import restrictions on Tokyo's food products, following the 2011 incident at Tokyo Electric Power Company's No. 1 nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan.

At the same time, the summit agenda is expected to include ways to strengthen cooperation between the EU and Japan in the digital field, such as setting international rules on the use of artificial intelligence.

Besides the upcoming EU summit, Prime Minister Kishida is currently considering attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit on July 11-12 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
