The Brazilian club will receive 18 players from Ho Chi Minh City FC.
As previously reported, from July 4th to 8th, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife, and a high-level Vietnamese delegation will be on a working visit to Rio de Janeiro to attend the 2025 BRICS Expanded Summit and conduct bilateral activities in Brazil at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva. The President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Tran Quoc Tuan, will be part of the delegation, accompanying the Prime Minister on several activities in Brazil.
On the afternoon of July 5th (local time) in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other delegates witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation agreements in various fields, including football. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City FC and Gremio FC signed a three-year agreement to train young players. Each year, Gremio FC plans to recruit 18 young players from Ho Chi Minh City FC, aged 15-17, for long-term training.

On the same day, the Prime Minister and his wife visited the Vasco da Gama Club in Rio de Janeiro. There, the Prime Minister proposed that Brazil and the Vasco da Gama Club strengthen cooperation and support Vietnam in developing football through areas such as training players, improving physical fitness and playing skills, club management capabilities, brand development, organizing competitions, and player transfers between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife were presented with a Vasco da Gama jersey by representatives of the club, and in return, they presented the club with a CAHN club jersey.

These activities aim to concretize the memorandum of understanding on football cooperation between VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan and Ambassador Marco Farani – representative of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), agreed upon on March 28, 2025. During the State visit of Brazilian President Lula da Silva to Vietnam, President Luong Cuong and the Brazilian President witnessed the signing ceremony of the aforementioned memorandum of understanding.
The memorandum of understanding between the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Brazilian Football Confederation is valid for three years and automatically renews for another two years. Both sides are committed to promoting cooperation in various fields to develop football in Vietnam and Brazil. The cooperation includes organizing conferences, exchanging experts, coaches, and teams at all levels; sharing experience in organizing professional leagues; supporting the national teams of both countries in training and friendly matches; facilitating the participation of youth teams (U.21 and below) in international tournaments; and sharing knowledge on sports medicine, rehabilitation, and facility management.

Previously, on December 18, 2024, the President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Quoc Tuan, received the Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam, Marco Farani, at the Vietnam Football Federation headquarters. The Ambassador affirmed that he would act as a bridge to promote football cooperation between the two countries and was ready to support the Vietnamese national team if they were to train or compete in Brazil. Both sides also agreed on cooperation plans for both youth and senior national teams (men's and women's), aiming to learn from Brazil's leading football development.
