In their very first competition at the Huamark Sports Complex swimming pool (Bangkok), the Vietnamese swimming team fielded a lineup including Nguyen Quang Thuan, Tran Hung Nguyen, Vo Thi My Tien, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, Jeremie Luong, Nguyen Thuy Hien, Cao Van Dung, and Trinh Truong Vinh.
Among the highly anticipated events, the men's 200m individual medley attracted particular attention with the participation of Tran Hung Nguyen - a prominent figure in Vietnamese swimming in recent years. Living up to expectations, Nguyen quickly gained the upper hand from the start and maintained the lead throughout all four heats.

With powerful energy and an impressive burst of speed in the final stretch, the Vietnamese swimmer crossed the finish line first with a time of 2'02''11. He was 1.77 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Santos (Philippines). His teammate Nguyen Quang Thuan also put in a strong effort to finish third, winning the bronze medal with a time of 2'04''19.
The gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games further solidified Tran Hung Nguyen's position among the best swimmers in Vietnam today.
In addition, in the pétanque event, Nguyen Van Dung also made his mark by defeating his Indonesian opponent in the final to bring home the fourth gold medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. This is the first time Nguyen Van Dung has stood on the highest podium at a SEA Games , after four previous runner-up finishes.
