Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, Mr. Ho Quang Buu, affirmed that upgrading the Vietnam - Switzerland relationship is the first step towards an era of comprehensive and sustainable cooperation.
Mr. Buu shared about Da Nang's vision of becoming a major socio-economic center of the country and Southeast Asia by 2030, and a livable, smart, Asian-class coastal city by 2045.
After merging with provincial administrative units, Da Nang became the centrally-run city with the largest area in the country with nearly 12,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 3 million people.
The city owns 2 standard airports, 3 international seaports with special mechanisms, and is developing key economic zones such as the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and the International Financial Center (IFC).
Currently, Da Nang has 1,282 FDI projects with a total capital of over 10.96 billion USD. The tourism industry has recovered strongly with 14.4 million overnight visitors (up 22.3% over the same period), of which international visitors reached 5.8 million (up 27.4%).
Although FDI cooperation between Da Nang and Switzerland is still modest with 3 projects, total capital of about 1.13 million USD, Da Nang city leaders believe that the two sides have great potential in the fields of finance, high technology and tourism.
The city expressed its hope that the Swiss and international business community will be a bridge to promote and mobilize investors to survey and learn about business opportunities in Da Nang, especially in the fields of tourism, logistics and seaport development.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that supporting localities in international integration is one of the Ministry's major priorities.
According to the Deputy Minister, Da Nang is a typical locality with more than 60 cooperative partners from 20 countries, signed 120 cooperation agreements and regularly organized regional and international events.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Switzerland is not only an important economic partner but also a long-term companion, contributing to helping Vietnam realize the goals of green development, innovation and inclusive growth.
