This decision was made to strengthen epidemic prevention measures during the current peak period. The Ministry of Health has just issued Official Dispatch No. 6881/BYT-DP officially approving the implementation of measles vaccination for children from 6 to under 9 months old in Ho Chi Minh City. |
The measles vaccination campaign for children aged 1 to 10 years has contributed to a decrease in the number of cases in this age group. However, the surveillance system recorded an increase in the number of new cases in the age group under 9 months.
This is a young age group, not old enough to be vaccinated against measles under the open immunization program, while maternal antibodies may have declined below protective levels.
Faced with this reality, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has sent a document to the Ministry of Health recommending measles vaccination for children of this age. On November 6, 2024, the Ministry of Health officially approved the implementation of measles vaccination for children from 6 to under 9 months old in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the World Health Organization, monovalent measles vaccine can be given to children from 6 to under 9 months of age during outbreaks as an enhanced anti-epidemic measure. This vaccine is considered as the “Measles 0” dose and then the child continues to be vaccinated with 02 doses of measles vaccine according to the Expanded Immunization Program schedule at 9 months and 18 months of age.
The Ministry of Health also directed the City Health Department to develop a detailed plan to ensure the vaccination rate reaches at least 95% in communes and wards and comply with safety measures.
Relevant units will conduct close monitoring to ensure no subjects are missed, especially young children in hospital.
Measles vaccine for children from 6 to under 9 months is the vaccine used in the expanded immunization program. Measles vaccination for children from 6 to under 9 months will be implemented by the city to ensure safety.
Ho Chi Minh City will continue to review and implement a measles vaccination campaign for children aged 1 to 10 in the area, as well as deploy vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program for those who have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated.
The Health Department recommends that parents and family members proactively take their children to vaccination points to get vaccinated against measles.

Hanoi: Pilot implementation of integrated electronic health book on VNeID
The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued Plan No. 322/KH-UBND on piloting the implementation of Electronic Health Books in Hanoi integrated on the VNeID application.
The plan aims to enhance connectivity and information sharing among medical facilities: Integrating the Electronic Health Book with VNeID helps medical facilities (including public and private medical facilities) share patient health data easily, thereby improving the quality of medical examination and treatment services, saving and avoiding waste due to performing the same work at many different medical facilities.
Improving the efficiency of public health management: Collecting and managing medical data centrally and uniformly in a shared database managed by the City will help City health agencies at all levels easily monitor and analyze public health trends, thereby having more timely and effective preventive measures and medical interventions.
Minimize the paperwork people have to bring when going to see a doctor or get treatment at public and private medical facilities. In addition, people can monitor and manage their health information continuously for life; be proactive in disease prevention, take care of their own health, and reduce the costs of medical examination and treatment at medical facilities in the city.
Providing the doctor with complete information about the disease, medical history, and risk factors affecting health, combined with the current examination, the doctor can have a more comprehensive assessment of the patient's health, diagnose the disease more promptly and accurately, detect the disease earlier, and treat it promptly when it is still in its early stages, resulting in higher treatment efficiency and reducing the cost of medical examination and treatment for each person.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee specifically requires absolute safety and information security in the process of exploiting people's Electronic Health Book data, preventing loss, leakage and use of data for illegal purposes.
Organize propaganda and mobilization to raise people's awareness of the benefits of Electronic Health Books; mobilize the participation of local authorities, departments, branches and organizations.
The Hanoi People's Committee requested the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to guide public and non-public medical examination and treatment facilities in the city to implement the instructions.
The City Police Department coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications to guide the Community Digital Transformation Team to guide and support people in installing, activating, and using electronic identification accounts - VNeID level 2; mobilize and guide people to integrate health insurance card information into the VNeID application.
People's Committees of districts, towns and cities Based on the Plan of the City People's Committee, develop specific and detailed plans for districts/towns/cities; at the same time, arrange local funding sources to effectively implement the Plan.
