In the midst of the stormy sea, soldiers still protect the sovereignty of the Fatherland day and night. Behind them are their wives quietly on land, taking care of the family and becoming a solid rear. For Ms. Pham Thi Huong, wife of Major Dang Xuan Kien, simple words of encouragement or short meetings between the couple also become a source of strength for Mr. Kien to work with peace of mind.
Overcoming Absence …
With two school-age children, Ms. Huong has to take care of her children's education, take care of her elderly parents, and manage all the big and small things in the family. At first, when Mr. Kien went on a business trip away from home, her life was difficult. With the duties and responsibilities of a mother, a wife, and a child, she had to take care of everything in the house herself. She shared: "Before, when my husband was still at home, he was the "repairman" and "driver" of the family. He took care of everything from the electrical system, damaged furniture, helped me sell goods, to taking the children to school. Since he started working far away, I have had to organize, adapt, and take care of everything in the house and on both sides of the family. Most importantly, I want him to be able to work with peace of mind, not having to worry when he is away from his family."

Looking up at the photo that holds memories of the couple when they were young, Ms. Huong confided: “I told myself that I must always be strong, must be the support for him to confidently fulfill his ideal of serving the Fatherland. What always makes me steadfast is the deep love and steadfast loyalty that he has for me, something that not every girl is lucky enough to have from her husband.”
Like many wives whose husbands work on remote islands, every time Mr. Kien goes to Truong Sa archipelago to perform his duties, Mrs. Huong's biggest worry is the harsh weather. Whenever she hears news of rough seas, low pressure or big storms, she feels uneasy. With the courage of a soldier's wife, she always tries to stay calm, not letting those worries affect her husband's spirit. Even if it's just a short conversation over the phone, she always takes advantage of every minute to send simple but emotional words to her husband. "Out there, living conditions are not favorable, when the weather is hot, there is a shortage of water, vegetables are limited, and medicine is not as plentiful as on the mainland. I am also very worried but I don't know what to do other than encourage him to try to overcome, complete all tasks assigned by the Party and State, and firmly protect national sovereignty," Mrs. Huong confided.

Sharing more with reporters, she said that Kien's most recent leave came right when Typhoon Yagi hit our country. That was supposed to be an opportunity for him to rest and reunite with his family after months of working on a remote island. However, when the storm arrived, he immediately joined his teammates and local people to support households in difficulty, contributing to minimizing damage. Many houses were flooded, roofs were blown away, trees were broken, disrupting people's lives. He and his teammates did not hesitate, rolled up their sleeves to repair houses, clean up and overcome the consequences of the natural disaster.
… Keep the family intact
Always accompanying her husband on the arduous journey of an island soldier, Ms. Huong proudly said: "I feel very happy and joyful because my husband is not only responsible for his family but also for the community and the people, always ready to help people in difficult circumstances."
Despite the hardships of life, Ms. Huong still finds joy in every little moment. The seashells of all shapes and colors that Mr. Kien sent from the remote island to his children were simple but meaningful gifts, containing immeasurable sentiments and precious memories.

Every time he returns home, Mr. Kien always tries to make up for the time he is away from home by taking care of his wife and children with all his heart. Seeing him busy taking care of his small family, witnessing the moment the whole family gathers together to enjoy a simple, cozy meal, Ms. Huong feels extremely happy and warm.
Each soldier’s family is a unique story woven from interwoven emotional threads - longing, worry, pride and strong faith. For them, separation does not fade passionate love but rather ignites the flame of loyalty and steadfastness. With the role of a solid rear, soldier wives like Ms. Huong are always a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping soldiers feel secure and at ease in protecting the Fatherland./.
