General Secretary To Lam receives US Secretary of War

VTV.vn - This afternoon (November 2), General Secretary To Lam received US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the significance of the visit, conveyed his regards to President Donald Trump and invited the President and his wife to visit Vietnam soon.

Appreciating the President's efforts to promote peace and resolve conflicts in the world, General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is ready to play an active and responsible role in finding solutions to regional and international issues.

Appreciating the results of the talks between Minister Pete Hegseth and Vietnamese Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, General Secretary To Lam asked the United States to continue supporting and strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war, including dioxin detoxification, mine clearance, supporting people with disabilities, and searching for and identifying the remains of Vietnamese martyrs missing in action.

Secretary Pete Hegseth conveyed President Donald Trump's regards to General Secretary To Lam, affirming the General Secretary's role and leadership prestige in guiding the development of bilateral relations. On behalf of the US Government, the Minister expressed condolences for the recent flood damage in the North Central provinces of Vietnam.

The Minister affirmed that the United States will continue to support Vietnam in improving its capacity, modernizing its defense industry, and expanding cooperation programs in training high-quality human resources; closely coordinate to complete ongoing war consequence-overcoming projects, and expand cooperation to new fields.

The two sides agreed to maintain high-level delegation exchanges and regular dialogue between agencies of the two countries, especially between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the US Department of War.

General Secretary To Lam suggested that both sides continue to promote the spirit of cooperation on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, believing that with the determination of the two countries' leaders, the Vietnam-US relationship will enter a "new era of substantive cooperation and sustainable development".
