Paying more than 10 million VND/month, seafood enterprises are still "thirsty" for labor

VTV.vn - Although there are many preferential policies, recruiting seafood workers at this time is very difficult.

In the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector alone, the total export turnover in the first 10 months reached over 58 billion USD, an increase of nearly 13% over the same period last year. Exports continued to record many highlights, especially the growth in export value mainly coming from the increase in selling prices.

Currently, seafood factories are entering the peak season of purchasing, processing and exporting, however, many businesses are restless because of the serious shortage of labor. Although there are many preferential policies, recruiting seafood workers at this time is very difficult.

To meet year-end orders, the company needs about 500 more workers. Despite high salaries and many attractive benefits, the company still faces difficulties in recruiting.

Mr. Hoang Trong Hung - Director of Dai Tay Duong Seafood Factory said: "Young people now have the need to work and rest, especially on Sundays and Saturdays. Currently, the seafood industry does not have enough human resources to implement that policy. Therefore, competing for labor resources with other fields is difficult."

Currently, the average salary of a worker is over 10 million VND/month, which is 40-50% higher than the regional salary. However, factories still have difficulty recruiting enough workers to meet production needs.

The Mekong Delta has about 300 establishments purchasing, processing and exporting seafood, with 800,000 - 1.2 million workers/year. Many solutions have been deployed to solve the current problem of local labor shortage.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Deputy Head of Employment Department, Department of Home Affairs of Ca Mau province commented: "We have connected businesses to inform workers of orders, ensuring smooth two-way labor supply and demand, workers can find jobs and businesses can recruit workers".

Ms. Le Thi Minh Phu - General Director of Minh Phu Hau Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company commented: "There are shuttle buses, social housing, and many other good policies to attract workers."

Each year, seafood exports bring in about 10 billion USD. That figure is unlikely to grow effectively and sustainably when the key factor is that the labor force for this sector is not guaranteed in both quantity and quality.
