The General Secretary emphasized that during that process, after 30 years of war and 20 years of embargo, from a poor country receiving aid from the United Nations , Vietnam has grown up, achieved very proud achievements and is making every effort for the common work, for peace , development and the interests of the people.
Affirming strong support for multilateralism with the United Nations playing a central role, the General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam is well aware of its responsibilities and is ready to participate in solving global issues such as maintaining peace, handling conflicts, promoting development, ensuring human rights, and responding to climate change.
With a deep understanding of the value of peace, Vietnam supports the settlement of disputes and conflicts by peaceful means, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law. The General Secretary asked the Secretary General to support Vietnam to participate more deeply in this field, especially in participating in UN peacekeeping activities in the context of unpredictable conflicts in the world.
Affirming that people are at the center of all policies, the General Secretary thanked the United Nations and other countries for their trust and support in Vietnam's membership of the Human Rights Council for two consecutive terms. The General Secretary said that this is the clearest evidence of Vietnam's commitments and achievements in ensuring the rights and interests of the people.
The UN Secretary-General expressed his belief that under the leadership of General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will achieve its major goals, including achieving double-digit growth in the coming years, and have a more important role and voice in the international arena, actively contributing to the consolidation of multilateralism and reform of multilateral institutions so that developing and emerging countries can have a more worthy role.
Considering Vietnam a fundamental pillar of South-South cooperation and of a balanced, stable multipolar world order based on international law, the UN Secretary-General hopes that Vietnam will strongly support balanced reform of the United Nations, maintain development assistance activities, especially for developing countries, and oppose unilateral actions.
Regarding international and regional issues, the two sides agreed on the need to strengthen solidarity, promote dialogue and cooperation to prevent conflicts, resolve disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of the United Nations Charter and international law, in which the role of regional organizations, especially ASEAN, and ASEAN- UN cooperation relations, in which the UN can refer to ASEAN's experience in dynamic economic development, maintaining peace, and promoting consensus, should be promoted.
General Secretary To Lam shared and appreciated the Secretary-General's good opinions and sentiments and affirmed that Vietnam is ready to join hands with the United Nations and the international community to build a world of peace, stability, fairness and sustainable development.
