Previously, on June 28, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced and presented Decision No. 1536/QD-BVHTTDL stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration and decisions on personnel appointments for the leadership of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.
Based on the Decisions of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh has been appointed Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration; and Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Mr. Pham Van Thuy, and Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc have been appointed Deputy Directors of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration. These Decisions are effective from July 1, 2023.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism's website has been renamed.
According to Decision 1536/QD-BVHTTDL dated June 15, 2023, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration is an administrative organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister in the state management of tourism and organizing the implementation of tourism laws nationwide, and managing public tourism services as prescribed by law.
Vietnam National Tourism Administration has legal status, has a seal with the national emblem and is headquartered in Hanoi , its English name is Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT).
According to the new organizational structure, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration will have a director and deputy directors; 7 specialized departments and 2 public service units. Specifically, there will no longer be department heads and deputy heads, replaced by heads and deputy heads of departments such as the Travel Management Department, the Tourism Accommodation Management Department, the Tourism Promotion Management Department, etc.
Regarding transitional regulations, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will inherit the tasks and powers of the General Department of Tourism according to regulations.
According to a report by the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, the country currently has 3,423 international travel agencies (an increase of 1,008 agencies compared to the same period in 2022); 34,874 licensed tour guides (an increase of 4,037 guides compared to the same period in 2022), including 20,387 international guides, 12,963 domestic guides, and 1,524 local guides. Regarding tourist accommodation, the country has 235 five-star establishments with 77,895 rooms; and 354 four-star establishments with 47,502 rooms.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has gone through many stages of development. Its predecessor was the Vietnam Tourism Company, established on July 9, 1960. In 1978, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism was established under the Government Council; in 1991, it merged with the Ministry of Trade and Tourism. However, in 1992, the National Administration of Tourism became a government-affiliated agency, and from 2007 to the present, it has been under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
