Ho Chi Minh City issues regulations on selecting excellent student teams after merger

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued a document on the selection of excellent student teams for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, the exam to select the excellent high school student team for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place in two mornings on September 17 and 18, 2025.

The content of the exam will be in the general education program, the teaching content of specialized subjects at high school level, and advanced programs. Time for each exam: 180 minutes. The second exam of foreign languages ​​includes a listening test; the computer science subject performs programming on a computer with the programming languages ​​C++, Pascal, and Python.

Students will choose one of the following subjects: literature, history, geography, math, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, English, French, Chinese, Japanese.

Contestants are students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in the 2025-2026 school year, with good or better academic and training results in the 2024-2025 school year.

In particular, in region 1 (formerly Ho Chi Minh City) and region 3 (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau ), specialized schools and schools with specialized classes must send at least 50% of students from specialized classes to take the exam in the specialized subject they are studying; high schools and general schools with high school level must send a maximum of 5 students to take the exam in each subject.

For region 2 (old Binh Duong ): students who have been selected through round 1 in February 2025 organized by the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province (old) will be able to take the exam.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, students selected for the preliminary team will participate in review and training according to the time frame and instructions of the department. After completing the training period, students will take the second round of the exam. Based on the results of the second round, the Department of Education and Training will select students from the preliminary team to join the official team of the city.

Grade 12 students in the official team will be recognized as winners of the city-level excellent student award for the 2025-2026 school year (first prize).

It is known that the above exam aims to select outstanding students from high schools to form a team to participate in the national excellent student exam for the 2025-2026 school year.

3 areas to select excellent student teams

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said candidates will take the exam in 3 areas:

Area 1: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (No. 235 Nguyen Van Cu, Cho Quan Ward), and Marie Curie High School (No. 159 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Xuan Hoa Ward).

Area 2: Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted (No. 593 Binh Duong Avenue, Thu Dau Mot Ward).

Area 3: Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (3/2 Street, Phuoc Thang Ward).
