Xuyen Tam Canal is nearly 9km long, passing through Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts (from Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river), with 3 main routes of 6.6km long and 3 remaining branch routes including Cau Son, Binh Loi, Binh Trieu.
For decades, Xuyen Tam canal has been a place of water pollution, garbage is dumped in the canal, heavy rain causes flooding causing many diseases, people living along both sides of the canal in makeshift houses have to endure. The commencement of this project has been supported by the people.

The Xuyen Tam canal renovation project includes dredging the canal bed to a depth of more than 3.5m, widening the canal bed from 20-30m, building a rainwater and wastewater drainage system, renewing the embankment with reinforced concrete piles, building roads on both sides of the canal, establishing parks, trees, and installing lighting.
The total investment capital is nearly 17,230 billion VND from the city budget, expected to be completed in 2028. The total recovered land area is 197,349 m2, affecting 2,215 cases (Go Vap district 138 cases and Binh Thanh district 2,077 cases).


Mr. Dau An Phuc, Director of the Urban Infrastructure Board ( Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board) said that over the years, the canal has been degraded, seriously polluted, with garbage, stagnant water, causing flooding, unsanitary conditions and greatly affecting people's lives. This project is the city's determination to improve the living environment, enhance the quality of life for people, and create a new look for the central urban area.
