Ho Chi Minh City tests AI-based traffic lights

DNVN - Ho Chi Minh City is piloting a traffic light system using artificial intelligence (AI), capable of analyzing traffic flows in real time to automatically adjust light cycles, contributing to reducing congestion on key routes.

On September 25, the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Technical Infrastructure Management Center (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) coordinated with relevant units to conduct a survey and inspection of the traffic light system at the intersection of My Xuan A Industrial Park, Km38+200, National Highway 51, Phu My Ward.

Attending the event were representatives of Road Management Area IV, Traffic Police Department - Ho Chi Minh City Police, People's Committee of Phu My Ward, Office of Traffic Safety Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, 886 - Thanh Nam Construction Investment Joint Stock Company and CTGT 73 Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company (system installation unit).

At the meeting, the businesses provided full records and documents for inspection. The parties coordinated to test and adjust the traffic light cycle as requested by the Traffic Police Department, in order to evaluate the actual effectiveness of the new technology.

The traffic light system using artificial intelligence (AI) is capable of analyzing real-time data from cameras and sensors, thereby automatically adjusting the light cycle to suit vehicle density. This technology helps optimize traffic flow, limit congestion, especially during rush hours, weekends and holidays.

In addition, AI can forecast traffic situations based on historical data, provide early warnings, and adjust traffic flows before congestion occurs. Traffic data is continuously updated to the control center, supporting the system to operate flexibly, self-learn, and adapt to reality.
