On the afternoon of October 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction issued a document requesting units and localities to comprehensively inspect public lighting systems, electrical cabinets, lamp posts, trees, drainage manholes, especially in parks, playgrounds, low-lying residential areas and roads that are frequently flooded.
Areas with unsafe risks will be temporarily suspended, warning signs and barricades will be installed to prevent risks to people. People's Committees of communes and wards will set up hotlines to receive reports of technical infrastructure incidents, and publicize them on local media so that people can promptly report when they discover unsafe risks.
The Department of Construction also requested units and localities to develop emergency response scenarios in case of electrical leakage, fallen trees, damaged lighting systems or flooding; closely coordinate with the electricity, fire prevention and fighting forces and the police in handling incidents, ensuring the safety of people's lives.
All plans and results of inspection and review must be reported to the Department of Construction before October 28 for synthesis and consultation with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for direction.
The Department of Construction emphasized that this is an urgent task that needs to be seriously implemented by localities and units to avoid similar heartbreaking incidents, especially during the ongoing stormy and high tide season.
Previously, regarding the case of two children being electrocuted to death in Can Tho city while playing in a flooded park, the initial cause was determined to be an electric leak from a lighting pole in the park area.
