
On December 28th, at the Presidential Palace, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met with and presented Labor Orders to students who won prizes at the 2024 International Olympiads in Science and Technology.
Here, the Vice President awarded the Labor Order to 20 students; Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son presented the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to 6 students.
Commending and congratulating the outstanding achievements of the Education and Training sector, teachers, and students in 2024, the Vice President emphasized that a love of learning is a very fine tradition of the nation, nurtured from generation to generation, thereby contributing to the formation of a Vietnam with a thousand years of civilization, a country we are very proud of today. Throughout each stage of the revolution, the Party and State have always paid attention to the development of the Education and Training sector; perfecting institutions, policies, and guidelines to build the country's human resources.
Over the past 40 years of implementing reforms and achieving overall national successes, the Education and Training sector has also achieved many important results, gradually approaching the achievements and advancements in education and training of advanced countries around the world. By 2024, Vietnam will have 17 higher education institutions ranked in the QS Asia University Rankings 2025; and two of Vietnam's national universities will be among the top 1,000 universities in the world.
This is a very proud achievement and reflects the tremendous efforts of the Party, the State, and especially the education sector, over the past period. Within this overall achievement, the Vietnamese delegation's performance in international competitions has steadily improved year after year; almost every contestant has won an award.
Highlighting the outstanding results achieved at the 2024 International Olympiad in Science and Technology, the Vice President stated that these achievements reflect the continuous efforts of the students, the dedication and commitment of the teaching staff, as well as the care and attention of parents and families for their children. They also demonstrate the support and collaboration of organizations and individuals in society; the correct orientations; and the increasingly effective methods of selecting, training, and organizing competitions for students by the education sector, which are more aligned with practical requirements.
The achievements not only represent the culmination of the Vietnamese nation's tradition of valuing education but also serve as a crucial foundation for building a high-quality workforce and realizing the Party and State's policies and guidelines in the future.
Summarizing the global, regional, and domestic context, the Vice President stated that, in order to adapt to the general trend and realize the country's development aspirations, the Party and State have issued many important policies and decisions, thus placing high expectations on the education and training sector and the younger generations.
The Vice President requested that the Ministry of Education and Training continue to develop specific, practical plans with a roadmap and solutions to implement the general policies of the Party and State, including Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. At the same time, the entire sector should continue to carry out the fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training, closely aligned with reality, suitable to the needs of national development, and keeping pace with the trends of the times.
Expressing his emotion upon hearing the stories shared by the young talents, the Vice Chairman hoped that, first and foremost, each future leader of the country would be a good citizen, a pioneer in learning, and an effective learner. He encouraged them to continue to be confident, to have plans to conquer knowledge and science, and to set future goals to make positive contributions to the country and society; thereby having the motivation to strive and develop more effective learning and training methods.
The Vice President expressed his wish that each teacher would continue to keep the flame alive and pass it on to future generations of students; nurturing in them a passion for learning, scientific research, and conquering new heights. At the same time, he urged teachers to actively update and innovate teaching content and methods to not only train students to achieve high academic results but also to become individuals with the competence and qualities of an outstanding citizen.
Responding to the directives of the Vice President, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the education and training sector is committed to continuing its comprehensive reform efforts and effectively implementing the policies of the Party and State to improve the quality of education. The education and training sector will create all conditions for students to study and research in the best possible environment, to develop comprehensively, and to become global citizens contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
In 2024, Vietnam had 8 delegations participating in international and regional Olympiads, with a total of 38 students; winning 12 Gold Medals, 15 Silver Medals, 10 Bronze Medals, and 1 Certificate of Merit. Compared to 2023, the number of Gold Medals increased by 4, and the number of Silver Medals increased by 3, affirming the strong progress in the quality of advanced education.
In 2024, Vietnam marked a milestone as it won second prize for the first time at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in the United States, affirming the potential for the development of innovative education in the field of science and engineering.
