On the morning of December 13th, the first Congress of Women's Representatives of Can Tho City, for the term 2025-2030, held its official session. The Congress's motto was "Unity - Compassion - Creativity - Integration - Development".
Attending the Congress were: Former Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Vice President , and former President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Truong My Hoa; Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Nguyen Thi Tuyen; Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, Le Quang Tung; and other members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the People's Council, the People's Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City.
The Congress was attended by 299 official delegates representing more than 665,400 female cadres and members throughout the city.
Delivering a keynote address at the Congress, Central Committee member, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, highly appreciated the results of the Women's Union's work and women's movement in the three localities: Can Tho, Soc Trang , and Hau Giang (formerly Can Tho City). During the past term, despite facing unprecedented difficulties and challenges, the Women's Union at all levels continuously innovated its content and methods of operation, effectively implemented emulation movements, campaigns, and tasks, closely linked with the implementation of the local political tasks, and achieved many outstanding results.

The First Congress of Women's Representatives of Can Tho City took place in the context of the country entering a new stage of development – a stage of major transformations such as: digital transformation, green transformation, knowledge economy, smart city construction, new rural development in mountainous areas, model rural development, and deep international integration. The City Party Committee identified this term as a breakthrough period, creating new momentum to make Can Tho a major development center of the Mekong Delta region, especially in trade, services, logistics, science and technology, health, and education.
For the Women's Union, this context presents new demands, requiring stronger and more comprehensive innovation in content and methods of operation; enhancing the capacity to unite women in a central urban area with a large geographical area, diverse population, and a relatively large proportion of ethnic minority women.
Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and President of the Vietnam Women's Union, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, agreed with and highly appreciated the key targets, tasks, and breakthroughs outlined in the Political Report; she also emphasized several points and suggested that the Congress study and implement them.
Firstly, we must continue to care for the well-being and protection of women and children, and build a safe, humane, and modern living environment; all activities must place members and women at the center, aiming for the legitimate rights and interests and the progress of women in the city; and using women's consensus as a measure of the effectiveness of our activities.

Women's Union branches at all levels need to focus on effectively and substantively implementing the "Building a family with 5 no's, 3 clean's, and 3 safe's" campaign, in accordance with the directives of General Secretary To Lam. All policies must be directed towards the lives, safety, happiness, and progress of women... The Union must truly be a reliable support system, a safe home where women can turn to when facing difficulties, in line with the spirit of "no one is left behind".
Secondly , continue to effectively implement campaigns and emulation movements, especially the "Building the Vietnamese Woman of the New Era" movement. The movement needs to go deeper, linking to the qualities of Vietnamese women such as patriotism, resilience, compassion, intelligence, creativity, responsibility, and integration. Identify specific models for each group of women; encourage women to improve their health, enhance their reading culture, personal finance skills, and adaptability to climate change – a unique challenge of the Mekong Delta region.
Thirdly , promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in the activities of the Women's Union, especially digital entrepreneurship and digital business; enhance adaptability and flexibility, perfect the connection of member databases to the population database according to Government Decree 06; promote the "digital literacy" movement at women's branches/groups, with Women's Union officials and members as the core to implement the movement; coordinate with departments, sectors, and technology enterprises to build a "safe cyberspace for women and children, preventing women and children from being harassed online".
Fourth, strengthen regional linkages and economic development among women in the city. After the merger, Can Tho has a vast agricultural, rural, and ethnic minority area. It is necessary to promote regional linkages in agricultural production, tourism, and trade; support women's participation in the OCOP program and the development of the circular economy and green economy; accompany women in innovative entrepreneurship, digital entrepreneurship, improving management capacity, access to capital and markets; strongly develop cooperative models and women's cooperative groups, especially among Chinese and Khmer women… Women must become the main actors in household economies, digital economies, smart agricultural economies, and circular economies.
Fifth , enhance the leadership capacity of Women's Union officials, proactively provide advice, supervision, and critical feedback, and build a team of female officials to meet new requirements. Coordinate closely with political and social organizations to improve the quality of advice, supervision, and social criticism; proactively identify issues directly affecting women, families, children, and gender equality to promptly recommend solutions to Party committees and authorities. Supervision must be focused, targeted, and thorough to ensure policies are effectively implemented.

Proactively mobilize and effectively utilize all resources; actively propose integrating gender equality goals into the city's socio-economic development programs; effectively implement Project 2415 on supporting women's entrepreneurship for the period 2026-2035, which has just been approved by the Prime Minister.
Sixth , focus on strengthening the organization of the Association, building a strong team of Association officials with political acumen, humanistic values, professional expertise, technological proficiency, closeness to the people and grassroots level, and enhancing advisory work on women's affairs within the two-tiered local government model; simultaneously, strengthen training and development of Association operational skills; and build a culture of Association officials: unity - responsibility - exemplary - daring to think and act, adapting to the requirements of the new term.
Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, expressed her confidence and expectation that the new Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Women's Union will lead the women's movement and Union activities to a new level; making a worthy contribution to the rapid and sustainable development of Can Tho City - the center of the Mekong Delta.
At the Congress, the Decision of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union was also announced, appointing the Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Women's Union, term 2025-2030, consisting of 55 members, with a Standing Committee of 15 members. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh was appointed to the position of President of the Can Tho City Women's Union, term 2025-2030.
The delegation to the 14th National Women's Congress was appointed to consist of 25 delegates (including 1 ex-officio delegate, 21 appointed official delegates and 3 alternate delegates).
