On June 3, information from the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority said that the ship owner hired a unit to salvage a barge tugboat that sank in the waters of Ly Son more than a year ago, leaving 9 people dead and missing.
The tugboat and barge involved in the accident were salvaged. |
According to information, Minh Linh Company Limited (ship owner) hired a group of professional workers on Ly Son Island to carry out the salvage. The tugboat sank at a depth of 45m, and was salvaged by connecting buoys with ropes and gradually lifting the ship.
By the evening of June 1, tugboat LA-06695 had been refloated and brought to the shore of Ly Son Island to assist with the investigation. This was the second of three vessels that sank in this serious maritime accident.
Previously, on April 24, 2024, tugboat LA-06695 towing barge LA-06883 belonging to Minh Linh Company Limited carrying boulders from Ky Ha port ( Quang Nam ) to Ly Son island suddenly encountered an accident and sank offshore. The barge was carrying a crawler excavator, which was determined to be located at a depth of about 60m, causing great difficulty for the salvage work.
The tugboat was badly damaged more than a year after the accident. |
According to initial verification, all of the above vehicles were contracted by Ly Tuan Company Limited to rent from businesses in Long An and Quang Nam to serve the construction work. The incident left particularly serious consequences with 4 dead and 5 missing.
On May 17, 2024, Quang Ngai Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the case under Article 272 of the Penal Code for the crime of violating regulations on controlling waterway vehicles.
