On October 19th, many rose growers in Lac Duong town (Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province) were overjoyed because the price of roses had doubled or tripled after days of plummeting to rock bottom. Currently, roses are being purchased at relatively high prices; domestic rose varieties are fetching 3,200-3,500 VND per stem, while imported rose varieties are priced at 4,000-5,000 VND per stem.
Currently, the price of roses has doubled or tripled compared to normal days, so people are very happy.
Speaking with reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan (from Lac Duong town) happily stated that currently, rose prices are being purchased by wholesalers at 2-3 times higher than in September. Ms. Xuan also mentioned that after March 8th, roses were only being bought for 400-1,000 VND per stem, a price that had almost hit rock bottom.
"My family grows about 1 hectare of various types of roses. The cost of one rose stem is about 700 dong, and with the current price of 3,200-5,000 dong per stem, I make a profit to compensate for the months when rose prices are low," Ms. Xuan shared.
Each rose stem costs approximately 700 dong.
Mr. Nguyen Hinh, the owner of a rose business in Lac Duong town, also said that demand increases significantly before October 20th, causing rose prices to rise considerably. Therefore, his business has to increase packaging and purchasing to meet market demand. Normally, Mr. Hinh's business packages and supplies about 8,000-9,000 rose stems per day to the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City markets. However, as October 20th approaches, he is supplying 20,000-25,000 stems per day.
Rose purchasing centers are stepping up packaging to supply the market before October 20th.
According to a representative from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lac Duong district, the district currently has over 400 hectares of various types of roses, mainly concentrated in Lac Duong town. The annual rose production is approximately 1.2 billion stems. Currently, Lac Duong district is also developing the Langbiang Rose brand to enhance the value of local production.
