This is the silkworm farming model for cocoon production of Ms. Vi Thi Tuyen's family.

Leading us on a tour of her family's mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming model, Ms. Vi Thi Tuyen from Coc Khieng village introduced: "Our family was one of the first households to decide to build this economic model (in 2017) after being introduced to mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming techniques and visiting some successful models. Although there were times when mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming faced difficulties, my family did not give up. Each year, we have 11 batches of silkworms, averaging one batch every 15 days, selling at 170,000 VND/kg, bringing in an income of 100 million VND."

Ms. Vi Thi Tuyen further shared: The family plans to expand the area for mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming by another 2-3 sao (currently the family cultivates 2 ha) with the hope of increasing the annual output of silkworm cocoons for sale. Mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming is a rural household economic model that provides stable income, is easy to implement, and has low risks.

Eight years ago, Mr. Do Chi Tuan, from Lang Dau village, was one of the pioneering households to experiment with growing V2 oranges in Phuc Khanh. After a successful trial period, the model proved its economic effectiveness. Thanks to mastering cultivation techniques and applying high technology, Mr. Tuan sells approximately 200 tons of oranges to the market each year.

Besides growing V2 oranges, Mr. Do Chi Tuan also grows several other citrus fruits such as lemons (3,800 trees) and Canh oranges (6,000 trees), promising to bring in a high and stable income.

The orange orchard not only provides a high income for Mr. Tuan's family but also creates stable jobs for 5-6 local laborers. During the orange harvest season, each person can earn 350,000 VND per day.

According to Mr. Do Chi Tuan: Growing V2 oranges in particular, and citrus fruits in general, is not simple at all. It requires growers to strictly adhere to cultivation techniques and pest control; conversely, the profit is high compared to other crops.

The climate and soil in Phuc Khanh are suitable for growing citrus fruits, and Mr. Tuan is also willing to share his experience with some local households, so the area of orange cultivation in the locality is expanding.

Recognizing that efficient rural agricultural economy is a crucial driving force contributing to the construction of new rural areas, the Party Committee and government of Phuc Khanh commune have implemented many policies and solutions to develop the rural agricultural economy, such as attracting agricultural processing enterprises to build raw material areas in the locality, and encouraging the development of effective cooperative models.

Phuc Khanh has successfully leveraged the advantages and strengths of each crop, forming a commodity-producing raw material area.

As a result, Phuc Khanh has leveraged the advantages and strengths of each crop, forming commodity raw material areas such as: fruit tree growing areas, mulberry cultivation and silkworm farming areas, timber tree growing areas, cinnamon growing areas, etc.; the value of products per unit area of cultivation is estimated to reach 100 million VND/ha in 2025.

In accordance with Resolution No. 10-NQ/TU of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee (before the merger) on the implementation of commercial agricultural development until 2030, with a vision to 2050, Phuc Khanh has identified the need to continue promoting the production of key crops such as cinnamon and some potential crops such as mulberry and citrus fruits, helping to bring economic benefits to the people.

The rural agricultural economic model has become a driving force helping Phuc Khanh achieve significant results in implementing the national target program for building new rural areas. By the end of 2025, Phuc Khanh will have met 15 out of 19 criteria for building new rural areas, striving to become a commune meeting the standards of new rural areas by 2030. According to the Resolution of the First Congress of the Phuoc Khanh Commune Party Committee, term 2025-2030.
