Ms. Hoang Thi Hong Hanh, a Literature teacher at Suoi Giang Primary and Secondary School, has dedicated nearly 20 years to education in the mountainous region, including 10 years in Suoi Giang, Van Chan commune. With patience and dedication, she not only imparts Literature knowledge but also opens up horizons of dreams for her students. Ms. Hanh understands that nurturing talented students here is not just a task but a mission, helping them overcome shyness and discover their potential.

The majority of students in Suoi Giang are children of ethnic minorities; they are often shy, have limited vocabulary, and come from disadvantaged backgrounds in terms of both learning and family life. Maintaining student numbers and ensuring that students master basic knowledge is already a great effort for both teachers and students, not to mention nurturing gifted students.
Ms. Hanh shared that the work of nurturing gifted students in Suoi Giang has very unique characteristics, quite different from that in the lowlands.
"In areas with better conditions, students enthusiastically prepare for the gifted student competition, but here, we have to encourage them and ask for their opinions. Most students in Suoi Giang are still shy and don't have a good vocabulary," Ms. Hanh confided.
This requires teachers to not only have strong professional skills but also a compassionate heart, boundless perseverance, and a deep understanding of students' psychology.
For Ms. Hanh, there is no single curriculum for nurturing gifted students that can be applied uniformly to all of them; only love and understanding matter. Her method focuses on expanding vocabulary, fostering a love of learning, and promptly addressing any knowledge weaknesses in each student.
To achieve this, it requires meticulous attention to detail and keen observation from the teacher. Ms. Hanh takes the time to thoroughly understand each student, from their personality and family background to their learning abilities, in order to find the most suitable approach.

Thanks to her perseverance and understanding, Ms. Hanh gradually broke down the shyness of her students, igniting their passion for learning. The dedication of the teachers in general, and Ms. Hanh in particular, has helped the students of Suoi Giang become more confident and actively participate in class discussions, thus absorbing knowledge more quickly.
Ms. Hanh and her students usually attend tutoring sessions during free periods or after school. However, things don't always go smoothly. Due to financial difficulties in their families, many students have to ask Ms. Hanh for permission to leave early to help their parents with household chores.
"Looking at their innocent eyes and small shoulders, yet having to help their parents with so many chores, I couldn't help but be moved. I also want to nurture them to achieve success and help students improve their academic results, but I have to choose, I have to find a way to balance studying and household chores so that they are not overwhelmed but can still absorb knowledge," Ms. Hanh confided.

Those quiet efforts have brought Ms. Hanh many "sweet fruits." Under her guidance, many students have won awards in district-level competitions in Literature and History. In particular, in the 2020-2021 school year, for the first time, Ms. Hanh took two students to the competition, and both excelled, winning second and third prizes at the district level.
The overwhelming joy was not only felt by the teacher and students but also became a great source of encouragement for all students in the school, igniting the belief that with effort, they can achieve high results in exams.
"I hope that the students in Suoi Giang will confidently step out of their villages to gain more knowledge and experience, thereby developing comprehensively," Ms. Hanh shared.
To realize that aspiration, Ms. Hanh often uses specific examples to motivate her students. These could be former students she mentored who have now pursued higher education and returned to work in their hometowns, or local teachers who have overcome difficulties to become guides of knowledge.
"These role models are more effective than a thousand words; they serve as motivation for the children to look up to and strive for success," Ms. Hanh affirmed.

The exemplary students are not only a source of pride for Ms. Hanh but also an endless source of inspiration for future generations of students at Suoi Giang. Many students continue their love for Literature in high school, and some even boldly take advanced exams, carrying with them the belief "I can do it" that Ms. Hanh has instilled in them.
Ms. Hanh has nurtured many talented students, inspiring them to dream and pursue their dreams. She has also made a significant contribution to changing the mindset of the local people; from simply hoping their children would be literate to ease their burdens, they now see a brighter future for their children through education.
For Ms. Hanh, nurturing gifted students is not just for those with outstanding abilities, but about fostering motivation in all students in the school. Ms. Hanh always believes that when "top-performing" students are nurtured and achieve success, other students will also see the motivation to strive, to see that the door to knowledge is always wide open. That is how she spreads belief, motivation, and aspiration to excel among the students in Suoi Giang.
