In his opening remarks, Dr. Vo Quoc Thang, Rector of the university and Chairman of the Admissions Council, emphasized: The Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports is a specialized training institution for physical education and sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The school's main mission is to train and develop human resources in sports from undergraduate to postgraduate levels; to cultivate talent; and to carry out scientific research, consulting, and service activities in the field of sports.
Over 50 years of construction and development, the school has become a place for nurturing and developing sports talents, helping many generations of students to assert themselves and contribute to national sports.
In particular, the school is proud to have trained and nurtured many outstanding experts, scientists, coaches, and athletes, bringing glory to the nation.
In recent years, the school has continuously innovated, improved the quality of training, modernized its facilities, and rejuvenated its teaching staff to meet the increasingly high demands of society.
The university was awarded a Certificate of Accreditation for Educational Institutions in 2024, and also achieved accreditation for its training programs in March 2025. It was ranked 57th among all higher education institutions nationwide by VNUR.
In 2025, the university will recruit 660 students for its full-time undergraduate program and 400 students for its part-time program, across four majors: Sports Coaching, Physical Education, Sports Management, and Sports Biomedical Sciences.
With its achievements and growing reputation, the school has built strong trust within the community, especially among parents and students.
This year, the school received nearly 4,000 applications, including more than 3,400 candidates applying for the regular program, demonstrating the growing trust and interest of society in professions related to physical education and sports.
According to Dr. Vo Quoc Thang, immediately after the aptitude test for the 48th cohort of the regular program, the school will continue to organize the entrance exam for the 83rd cohort of the part-time program with 400 places. The deadline for submitting applications is August 14th, and the exam is tentatively scheduled for August 22nd, 2025.
The training program and bachelor's degree offered by this system are equivalent to those of the full-time program, creating favorable conditions for students to work while studying and improving their skills.
On behalf of the Admissions Council, Dr. Vo Quoc Thang affirmed that the school is committed to organizing the entrance examination safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations; creating all favorable conditions for candidates to confidently demonstrate their abilities and achieve the highest possible results.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the contestants entered the talent competition with the following events: Athletics; Gymnastics; Swimming; Football; Badminton; Basketball; Table Tennis; Volleyball; Handball; Chess; Martial Arts; Wrestling - Judo; Shooting; Tennis and general talent.
Sharing further with Van Hoa (Culture) magazine , Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi My Linh — Vice Rector and Vice Chairman of the Admissions Council, said that with the large number of candidates, the school expects to fill all its quotas in this round and will not need to organize an additional admissions round.
Spreading a spirit of community responsibility through a swimming program to prevent drowning.
Alongside the opening ceremony of the 48th regular university entrance exam, Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports launched the program "Drowning Prevention and Survival Swimming for Students in Local Areas in 2025".
This is a collaborative activity between the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and local departments and agencies aimed at raising awareness and equipping children with safe living skills.
Drowning accidents are always a concern for society as a whole, especially in rural areas and regions along rivers and canals, where children do not have the opportunity to learn to swim properly.
Launching this program not only demonstrates the school's social responsibility but also contributes to minimizing heartbreaking losses and gradually building a "water safety culture" in the community.
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, a swimmer who graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports, is now returning as an ambassador for the "Drowning Prevention and Survival Swimming for Students in Local Areas in 2025" program. She shared that returning to the place that nurtured her passion and sporting journey makes her emotional and proud.
Ánh Viên stated that this school not only provided a solid professional foundation but also cultivated her spirit, perseverance, and discipline—values that have stayed with her throughout her journey from national athlete to someone dedicated to spreading the spirit of sports to the community.
In the joyful atmosphere of the opening ceremony of the recruitment event, Anh Vien expressed her happiness at seeing the flame of passion for sports being passed on to the next generations, who will continue to build a healthier Vietnam, reaching further in the sports arena and in life.
On this occasion, Ánh Viên officially launched a drowning prevention program with the goal of implementing it in 7 provinces and cities in 2025, in areas where children lack opportunities to learn to swim and acquire water survival skills.
"With the support of the teachers from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and the wider community, I believe that we can not only train a generation of excellent students but also protect precious lives out there," Anh Vien shared.
