From July 1, 2025, home medical examination and treatment will also be covered by health insurance.

(Dan Tri) - From July 1, 2025, the amended Law on Health Insurance (HI) officially takes effect. From then on, the scope of health insurance benefits for HI participants will be expanded.

On November 27, at the 8th session, the 15th National Assembly passed Law No. 51/2024/QH15 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Health Insurance (referred to as the 2024 Law on Health Insurance).

In Clause 16, Article 1, the 2024 Social Insurance Law amends Article 21 in the direction of expanding the scope of benefits for health insurance participants.

At Point a, Clause 1, Article 21 of the current Law on Health Insurance, it is stipulated that health insurance participants are paid by the health insurance fund for medical examination, treatment, rehabilitation, periodic pregnancy check-ups, and childbirth costs.

The 2024 Social Insurance Law adds many other cases. Specifically, Point a, Clause 1, Article 21 of the 2024 Health Insurance Law stipulates that health insurance participants are covered by the health insurance fund for the following expenses: "Medical examination and treatment, including remote medical examination and treatment, support for remote medical examination and treatment, family medical examination and treatment, medical examination and treatment at home, rehabilitation, periodic pregnancy check-ups, childbirth".

At Point b Clause 1 Article 21 of the current Law on Health Insurance, it is stipulated that health insurance participants are paid by the health insurance fund for the cost of transporting patients from district level to higher level in emergency cases or when inpatient treatment requires transfer to a specialized technical level.

However, this regulation only applies to 6 groups participating in health insurance paid by the state budget.

The 2024 Social Insurance Law adds 10 groups participating in health insurance paid by the state budget to enjoy this provision.

In addition, at Point c, Clause 1, Article 21 of the 2024 Law on Health Insurance, it is also stipulated that health insurance participants will be paid by the health insurance fund for "the costs of using medical technical services, drugs, medical equipment, blood, blood products, medical gases, supplies, tools, instruments, and chemicals used in medical examination and treatment within the scope of payment of the health insurance fund".
