According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, on August 17th, the northern region of Vietnam experienced localized showers and thunderstorms.

From the night of August 18-19, Northern Vietnam will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with localized very heavy rain, with rainfall amounts ranging from 40-70mm, and in some places exceeding 150mm.

Additionally, the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam will experience showers and thunderstorms from the afternoon of August 17-18, with localized heavy rain , concentrated in the afternoon and evening.

Experts warn that from August 19-21, the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam are likely to experience widespread moderate to heavy rain. From August 20, rain in Northern Vietnam is expected to gradually decrease. The risk of natural disasters due to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail is at level 1.

People need to be wary of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas. In addition, they should be prepared for heavy rainfall in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas; thunderstorms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

At sea, in the southern part of the central South China Sea and the southern South China Sea (including the Spratly Islands), there were showers and thunderstorms. The Huyen Tran Island station recorded strong southwest winds of level 5, sometimes level 6.

Forecasts indicate that on the night of August 17th, the southern part of the central East Sea, the southern East Sea (including the Truong Sa Islands), the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang , and the Gulf of Thailand will experience showers and thunderstorms.

The western sea area of ​​the South China Sea (including the western sea area of ​​the Spratly Islands) and the sea area from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau will experience strong southwest winds of force 5, sometimes force 6, gusting to force 7-8; rough seas; waves 1.5-2.5m high, sometimes over 2.5m during thunderstorms.

The lowest temperature will be from 26-29 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius.

In Hanoi, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, with the possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during the thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be between 27-29 degrees Celsius.

In the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening; during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature will be from 26-29 degrees Celsius.

From Da Nang to Binh Thuan, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and night; during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature will be from 25-28 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 28 degrees Celsius.

In the Central Highlands region, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening, with localized moderate to heavy rain; southwest winds at level 2-3; there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be from 21-24 degrees Celsius.

In the Southern region, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the late afternoon and evening, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain; southwest winds at level 2-3; there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature will be from 24-27 degrees Celsius.

On August 17th, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control issued document No. 311/VPTT to the Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Commands of the northern mountainous provinces regarding the response to heavy rain, flash flood risk, and landslides in mountainous areas.

To proactively respond to and minimize damage caused by heavy rains and the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in areas that have experienced heavy rainfall recently, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control requests that the northern mountainous provinces urgently monitor weather forecasts and warnings closely, and promptly inform all levels of government and the public to proactively take preventive measures, especially in areas that have experienced heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides recently.

Northern mountainous provinces are deploying rapid response forces to inspect and survey residential areas along rivers and streams, low-lying areas at high risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides, in order to proactively organize the relocation and evacuation of people to safe places; and to have rescue forces and equipment ready when needed.

The Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, Vietnam Radio, and other mass media agencies are intensifying their reporting on the heavy rainfall to all levels of government and the public to enable proactive prevention measures; at the same time, they are organizing a serious duty roster and regularly reporting to the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and the Office of the National Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue.
