Tuan Giao continues to develop diverse OCOP products

Hong Ky International Coffee Joint Stock Company is currently making efforts to improve product quality, packaging, traceability and geographical indications to upgrade HK13 coffee from 3 stars to 4 stars, and propose to consider OCOP product recognition for 2 other coffee products. **In the photo: Company staff packaging coffee.**

According to the One Commune One Product Project plan, in the period of 2019 - 2025, Tuan Giao district strives to have 10 products recognized as achieving 3 stars or more. Up to now, Tuan Giao has had 5 products recognized as 3 stars, including: Cat melon, freeze-dried dried cat apple, cat apple vinegar, dried cardamom, Hong Ky HK13 coffee. The products have promoted their value, creating conditions for people to develop agricultural products, bringing them to a wider market.

Implementing the program in 2023, Ms. Quang Thi Nhu Quynh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuan Giao district said: "The Department continues to guide the communes, especially the subjects, to select and prepare typical products that can be proposed for recognition of 3 stars or more; advise and accompany the subjects to complete the documents and procedures to propose recognition or upgrade the product". Specifically, the district is completing the proposal to recognize dried macadamia products, roasted and ground coffee and upgrade the OCOP rating from 3 stars to 4 stars for 1 product.

At Tuan Giao Thoa Doan macadamia production facility (Tan Giang block, Tuan Giao town), during the harvest season, more than 40 tons of fresh fruit are processed, annually supplying the market with more than 22 tons of canned dried macadamia. Currently, the facility's products are well received and positively evaluated by consumers and are exported to many provinces and cities in the country, but if recognized as an OCOP product, there will be more opportunities to expand the market. Therefore, the facility is completing the criteria and procedures according to the guidance and support of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to request consideration for recognition of its products.

Ms. Doan Thi Thoa, the owner of the facility, said: “Tuan Giao is developing macadamia trees strongly. This type of tree is very suitable for the area, giving delicious, nutritious, high-quality fruit, so my family invested in processing macadamia nuts, hoping that the product will be recognized, known more widely, contributing to increasing the value of local agricultural products”. To realize that wish, Tuan Giao Thoa Doan macadamia production facility has invested in a drying rack system and many machines, such as shelling, drying, shelling, stamping and labeling machines... to ensure the quality of dried fruit and create a beautiful appearance for macadamia boxes sold on the market. Aiming at OCOP products and improving product quality, Ms. Thoa added: “My family is planning to continue expanding the factory, separating the purchasing and processing areas”.

As for Hong Ky International Coffee Joint Stock Company, there has been one product recognized as a 3-star provincial OCOP product, HK13 ground coffee, since 2020. "Currently, the Company is innovating the packaging design to be beautiful, convenient, and still have its own characteristics, while further improving the quality and geographical indications, traceability to upgrade HK13 from 3 stars to 4 stars" - Mr. Nguyen Anh Viet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company shared.

Along with upgrading the above products, the Company continues to improve the quality and value of 14 existing products (coffee beans, roasted ground powder, filter bags...) and complete the development of 2 more OCOP products: HK10 premium whole bean coffee and HK5 filter coffee. Mr. Viet added: "The Company will expand the fresh fruit purchasing and processing workshop from the current 200m2 to about 5,000m2, develop linkages between growing areas, invest in more modern machinery, and orient to visit and experience the production process and growing areas".

Along with the above products and entities, Tuan Giao determined the goal of striving to perfect and develop more strong and typical products in the district, belonging to the group of fresh foods (squash), processed foods (cider apple, macadamia), spices (star anise)... The District People's Committee also coordinated with provincial departments, branches and sectors to help founders establish cooperatives, form production links between companies and cooperatives, build raw material areas that meet a number of production standards of purchasing units. Thereby creating conditions to ensure raw materials and quality for products that have been recognized as OCOP in the area, increasing the value of local agricultural products.
