Speaking at a press conference, Lieutenant General Halevi said: "We will use many measures to ensure that the achievements will last long."
According to this military official, "there is no magic solution, no shortcut" to defeat the enemy "except steadfastness and determination in the fight".
Regarding the assassination of a senior adviser to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria on December 25, which Tehran blamed on Israel, Halevi said: "I will not mention the actions we have taken."
However, the general said, the IDF is cooperating with other security agencies in the Middle East, within the national borders and around the country's borders to "take whatever action is necessary to make clear that Israel is determined to defend its homeland and is ready to do so further afield."
Regarding the hostages being held by the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, on December 25, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he had asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to intervene to help free female hostage Noa Argamani (whose mother is Chinese) who is suffering from terminal cancer.
In his speech to the Knesset , Mr. Netanyahu revealed that he had sent a diplomatic note to Chinese Ambassador to Israel Cai Run to convey a message to leader Xi Jinping: "I personally ask you to intervene to rescue Ms. Noa Argamani."
Mr. Netanyahu explained to Ambassador Cai that Noa's mother just wanted to see her daughter one last time before she passed away and that the Chinese diplomatic representative had "guaranteed" to convey the message to his country's leader.
Previously, the Israeli leader asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to work with Hamas to free the hostages being held by armed movements in the Gaza Strip.
On the same day, December 26, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared that his country's people had never witnessed such a war even during the Nakba disaster in 1948, while criticizing the US's veto of all UN efforts to stop hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
According to the leader, Israel's war is not over yet, although more than 20,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 60,000 others injured, while between 7,000 and 10,000 people are still missing under the rubble in Gaza.
The Palestinian president called for an end to the fighting, allowing continued access to aid and humanitarian relief in the besieged Gaza Strip and stopping the expulsion of Palestinians.
The Palestinians are ready to accept any solution based on the establishment of a Palestinian state including Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem in accordance with relevant international agreements, but Mr. Abbas expressed doubts about Israel's readiness to participate in this roadmap.
The leader also revealed that a meeting of Palestinian leaders with Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar will be held soon to discuss future steps.
