Stabilize the admission process.
In 2026, the admission plan of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) is expected to remain largely unchanged from the previous year. Accordingly, the majority of the quotas will still be allocated to the comprehensive admission method, based on academic results (including transcripts, the High School Graduation Examination, and the aptitude test), along with the candidate's academic achievements and cultural, sports , and artistic activities.
In 2025, the school will apply two main methods: comprehensive admission based on academic records, accounting for 95% to 99% of the total enrollment quota, and direct admission or priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , accounting for approximately 1-5%.
The University of Finance and Marketing (Ho Chi Minh City) also plans to maintain its admission methods, including considering high school graduation exam scores, academic transcripts, the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test scores, and the V-SAT university entrance exam scores, in addition to direct admission as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry announced that its 2026 admissions plan will basically remain stable as in 2025, with the following methods: direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; consideration of the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test; consideration of the results of the high school graduation exam; and admission combining high school academic results with outstanding achievements (if any).
The University of Banking Ho Chi Minh City uses multiple admission methods: comprehensive admission based on academic results and achievements in high school; admission based on V-SAT exam results; admission based on high school graduation exam scores; and direct admission, priority admission, and interviews for bachelor's programs with degrees awarded by international partners.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade maintains the same 5 admission methods as last year: Admission based on high school graduation exam results; Admission based on high school academic records (transcript); Admission based on the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test; Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Admission based on the results of the specialized aptitude test of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, combined with high school academic results according to the corresponding subject combination.
Many experts believe that announcing admission plans early helps schools be more proactive in their training plans, reach out to talented students sooner, and build effective communication strategies. For candidates, this is an opportunity to prepare their applications early, find out the cutoff scores and admission requirements, and avoid being caught off guard when the official regulations are issued.

Stabilize the competency assessment exam.
In 2025, over 152,000 candidates participated in the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test across two testing sessions, with a total of over 223,000 test attempts. This is an important admissions method used by approximately 100 educational institutions in recent years. According to the Center for Testing and Quality Assessment of Training (National University of Ho Chi Minh City), apart from adjustments to the timing, the 2026 aptitude test will essentially retain the same structure and format as in 2025.
Accordingly, the exam continues to closely follow the 2018 General Education Program, maintaining sections on language and mathematics, while increasing the number of questions to enhance reliability and differentiation.
The logic section – data analysis and problem-solving – is restructured into scientific thinking, aiming to assess the ability to reason, use logic, and apply knowledge to real-world situations in the fields of science, technology, economics , and society. Questions are designed based on data, experiments, or experimental results, requiring candidates to analyze, predict, and deduce patterns, thereby demonstrating their scientific thinking skills.
According to data released by the Ministry of Education and Training at the conference summarizing the organization of the High School Graduation Examination (late September 2025), 2025 is considered a milestone for strong diversification in university admission methods.
Besides admissions based on high school graduation exam scores, many schools have combined other methods such as reviewing academic transcripts, aptitude test scores, international certificates, or a combination of criteria. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, academic transcript review accounts for 42.4% of the total number of admitted students, high school graduation exam scores account for 39.1%, and other methods account for 18.5%.
Ms. Tran Thi Le Quyen, Deputy Director of the Distance Learning Center at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, believes that the method of evaluating high school transcripts should continue to be maintained in the 2026 admissions season to expand opportunities for candidates. However, Ms. Quyen noted the need to standardize the evaluation of transcripts to avoid "grade inflation," while also limiting quotas and combining interviews or aptitude tests to ensure fairness and quality of incoming students.

Supplementing policies to attract candidates.
According to Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, a notable new feature in the 2026 admissions season is the special support policy for candidates admitted directly. Accordingly, candidates in this category will receive a 100% tuition fee waiver for the entire course, along with a monthly living allowance of 3 million VND throughout their studies.
"The new policy aims to encourage high-achieving students to choose to study domestically instead of abroad, while also helping the school attract talent and improve the quality of its intake," Mr. Son shared, emphasizing that maintaining multiple admission methods helps reduce exam pressure and expands opportunities to enter university through various competency assessment channels.
According to Mr. Son, the university will not introduce any new admission methods in 2026, but will adjust scholarship criteria and financial support policies, aiming for a friendly, flexible learning environment and strong ties with businesses. This is seen as evidence of the trend towards university autonomy coupled with social responsibility, ensuring access to quality education for learners.
From another perspective, Dr. Mai Duc Toan - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Gia Dinh University (Ho Chi Minh City) said that the university plans to apply three admission methods while awaiting the official regulations from the Ministry of Education and Training, including: Considering the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam (15 points or more, depending on the major); Considering high school academic transcripts (17 points or more); Considering the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test (600 points or more, depending on the major).
Dr. Toan emphasized that the school still prioritizes familiar and easily accessible methods for students, while also focusing on training programs that connect with businesses and enhance practical experience for students. “We aim to train a truly competent workforce, where graduates can start working immediately. When candidates know about the admissions process early, they will be better prepared – this is also how the school demonstrates its responsibility to society,” Dr. Toan said.
According to data from the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), the 2025 admissions season saw nearly 850,000 candidates register for admission with over 7.6 million applications to more than 300 universities, colleges, and teacher training colleges nationwide. As a result, more than 625,000 candidates confirmed their enrollment.
