Panda Cup 2025 is just a stepping stone for U22 Vietnam towards the race at SEA Games 33

The international friendly tournament taking place in China became tense when the host team unexpectedly won 2-0 against U22 Korea. U22 China had previously lost 0-1 to U22 Vietnam in the opening match. The development has made all 4 teams currently have 3 points and have a chance to win the championship.

In the final match, U22 Vietnam will meet U22 Korea, an opponent that is considered to be of a higher level in terms of expertise. Talking to Tien Phong, a leader of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team are not under any pressure regarding performance.

“Winning is of course more fun, but the results are not the goal when we participate in the tournament. What is important is how the players perform as well as the opportunity for U22 Vietnam to accumulate experience, preparing for SEA Games 33. Besides, they need to maintain good health and fitness, avoiding unnecessary injuries. Through the tournament, coach Kim Sang-sik will also evaluate the force more carefully, build the squad and have a reasonable tactical plan" - the above VFF leader said. He also assessed that U22 Vietnam in both matches with China and Uzbekistan showed effort and determination, with professional progress. This person said:

“We hope the players will continue to focus and make more efforts in the remaining period. To achieve success, the players need to be truly professional. Win or lose, they need to learn lessons to be able to improve.”

According to the match schedule, U22 Vietnam will meet U22 Korea at 2:30 p.m. on November 18. After the tournament, the U22 Vietnam team will return home to rest before having a short training session in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and then going to Thailand to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.
