U23 Yemen has announced the list of 23 players participating in the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers taking place in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ). Notably, all 3 strikers registered by the West Asian team are national team players.
Abdulaziz Masnoum, Qassem Al-Sharafi and Hamza Mahrous all played for Yemen in the 0-0 draws with Bhutan and Lebanon in the final round of 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Among them, Hamza Mahrous is considered to stand out as the third choice in the national team's attack after captain Abdulwasea Al-Matari (31 years old) and Omar Al-Dahi (26 years old).
In preparation for the qualifying round, coach Amin Al Suneini and his team have undergone a thorough training process. The team will be stationed in Marib City (Yemen), before going to Fujairah (UAE) to train and play friendly matches with a number of clubs in the country as well as in the UAE.
In the list of participants in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, U23 Yemen only has one player playing abroad, goalkeeper Muhammad Ramadan Shuey Jumaan (currently playing in Saudi Arabia). The remaining 22 players are all playing for domestic clubs.
Yemeni media reported that coach Al Suneini once expressed his desire to call up 17-year-old striker Adel Abbas Qasem - a young talent who is considered to have great potential.
However, this wish was not approved because this player had to concentrate with the Yemen U20 team to participate in the 2025 West Asia U20 tournament.
According to plan, U23 Yemen will travel from Dubai and arrive in Hanoi in the early afternoon of August 31, then continue their journey to Viet Tri.
In the group stage, the West Asian team will meet U23 Singapore (September 3), U23 Bangladesh (September 6) and U23 Vietnam (September 9).
For their part, the U23 Vietnam team will gather for training at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) from August 30. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will meet U23 Bangladesh (September 3), U23 Singapore (September 6) and U23 Yemen (September 9).
The 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the finals in Saudi Arabia. With home field advantage and their strength, the U23 Vietnam team is expected to have no difficulty qualifying for the finals.
