How to behave in traffic collisions is an important content shared in the discussion "Traffic behavior culture" organized by Tien Phong Newspaper in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport this morning (December 24).

Encourage the use of public transport

Sharing in the discussion, Mr. Do Ngoc Hai, Head of the Department of Road Traffic Infrastructure Management (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport), said that in the condition of very low traffic area, Ho Chi Minh City has many investment plans to build projects such as: metro, underpass, intersection expansion, lighting system, traffic signs, road markings in front of school gates, median strips between lanes... to increase traffic area and limit collisions.

According to Mr. Hai, Ho Chi Minh City is a megacity, the number of vehicles increases every year and will increase by 7% by 2024. Therefore, people using public transport helps to relieve overloaded road space, minimizing collisions on the road.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Hai, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police, noted that the cause of recent fights and collisions cannot be attributed to the pressure of traffic jams and congestion, but rather to the awareness of traffic participants.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Hai said that the psychology of traffic participants is that they are afraid of traffic jams and want to go fast and leave early, so they drive in the wrong lane, go onto the sidewalk, then collide and lose their composure when dealing with the situation, leading to inappropriate behavior.

"In case of a collision, people must give way and one party must admit their mistake so that the incident can be resolved and no unfortunate consequences can occur. People should stop to ask questions and check the vehicle to see if it is damaged or if anyone is injured. After that, they should find a solution and not leave. That is the only way to behave civilly in traffic," said Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Hai.

How to overcome unwanted situations

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, said that the safety of students when participating in traffic is often a concern of universities.

"Every time I receive a call from the student affairs office, especially at night, I am always worried about accidents or risks that could affect the health and safety of students participating in traffic," Associate Professor Tuan expressed.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport has not recorded any cases of student violence or traffic conflicts. However, he noted that students wearing school uniforms are often at a disadvantage in traffic collisions, especially first-year students.

In a further warning to students, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan said that the first to suffer are those directly involved in the incident. The losses in health and life are irreparable. In addition, most students today still depend on their families, with financial resources that are just enough to cover monthly expenses. Therefore, if they are prosecuted for traffic accidents, they will face specific forms of punishment, causing great impact on their personal and family finances .

"If a driver's license is temporarily suspended, it can also disrupt students' travel, study and other activities," Associate Professor Tuan emphasized.

Therefore, according to the Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, awareness is the most important factor. If students maintain a calm and modest attitude, they can overcome unwanted situations when participating in traffic.
