The competition "Following the Tunnels - Exploring Ban Thach Today" was organized by the Ban Thach Ward Youth Union in collaboration with the Center for Living and Learning for the Environment and Community (Live & Learn) through the "Green Citizen - Healthy City" project.
Ms. Luong Thi Nhan, Secretary of the Ban Thach Ward Youth Union (representing the competition organizing committee), said that the competition, aimed at celebrating the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term; commemorating the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, is attracting the enthusiastic participation of many students and youth union members.
With creative, vibrant, and meticulously crafted entries, the competition became a meaningful journey back to the roots, where young people expressed their pride in historical traditions and conveyed their love for their homeland.

Ms. Nhan said: “By participating in the competition, the young people transform into special ‘reporters,’ exploring the Ky Anh tunnels – a historical site of their homeland, a place that once sheltered many people during the war years, listening to stories from those who lived through the war. From there, the young people retell the story from their own perspective.”
Participating in the competition with their work "Memories from the Underground - Ky Anh Tunnels," the group of students Le Nhi, Ngoc Nhi, Ngo Nhi, and Cuong Thinh (9th grade/13, Nguyen Du Secondary School, Ban Thach Ward) explored the secrets beneath their homeland's soil to feel and recount the story through images.
“In this photo album entry, we convey authentic moments and emotionally rich stories from our journey back to our roots. We are following in the footsteps of our ancestors to preserve our heritage and revive the heroic memories in the heart of historical Ky Anh…”, the group of young people shared.

Mr. Huynh Kim Ta (a veteran from Ban Thach ward), who appeared frequently in the photos and videos submitted by students and youth union members to the competition, shared stories about the underground tunnels. Through his narration in the competition clips, viewers can imagine the courage of the local people during the resistance war against the US and for national liberation.
While taking "reporter" Nguyen Trinh Hoang Phuoc (7th grade/8, Ly Tu Trong Secondary School, Tam Ky ward) and a group of students on a tour of the tunnel system inside the underground tunnels, Mr. Ta expressed his joy that the younger generation is interested in learning about history, especially about the underground tunnels of their homeland.
He stated that the Ky Anh tunnels were built during the years of the war against the US, and every meter of the tunnels is steeped in the sweat and blood of our compatriots, comrades, and people. He also urged the younger generation to always cherish and be grateful for the sacrifices made by their ancestors to achieve the peace we enjoy today...
The Ky Anh Tunnels, an underground tunnel system that also served as a human tunnel system in the former Tam Thang commune (now part of Ban Thach ward), were dug starting in May 1965 and completed in 1967, with a length of approximately 32km. In 1997, the Ky Anh Tunnels were recognized as a national historical revolutionary site.
The competition "Following the Tunnels - Exploring Ban Thach Today" is open to students and youth union members in communes, wards, and schools in the former Tam Ky city area.
Individuals/groups participating in the competition can create products in various forms such as photo albums, videos, and podcasts introducing and telling the story of the Ky Anh tunnels.
The organizers have extended the deadline for entries to September 10, 2025 (instead of August 31 as previously planned).
Entries should be sent to the email address [email protected]; after submission to the organizing committee, selected entries will be posted on the Ky Anh Tunnels fanpage and the Tuổi trẻ Bàn Thạch fanpage to participate in the voting round.
