Viet Anh: "The title of Meritorious Artist is a dream I never thought of"

The title of Meritorious Artist is pressure but also pride.

- Actually, up to this point, I still haven't gotten used to people calling me that, because... it's too serious. Perhaps, it's also a huge invisible pressure on me.

Honestly, being awarded the title of Meritorious Artist is a dream I never thought of, a reward beyond my imagination.

I was just an amateur actor. My chance to get into cinema was when I was curious to attend the VFC TV actor training class - this was the first year of the VFC actor training course. Here, I met the head teacher Hoang Dung (the late People's Artist Hoang Dung - PV).

As an artist with nearly 20 years of dedication to acting, I consider this title an honor from the State, a great motivation for me on my artistic path. Achieving this title, besides the pressure, I also feel extremely honored and proud.

I find myself needing to be serious, meticulous, professional, responsible, and maintain my image more than ever.

As one of the freelance actors awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, do you think this will open a new path, when freelance artists in different fields can receive similar honors?

- Up to now, for freelance artists, to be recognized and have the title of Meritorious Artist or People's Artist is much more difficult than for artists who are employed by the State cultural agency, because the opportunities for freelance artists like me to participate in festivals and win awards and gold medals seem to be very few or even non-existent. We can only participate in other art projects.

I am honored and proud to be the first member of the first class of Television actors, organized by VFC, to be awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. I hope that my title can inspire independent artists, those who are not yet professional artists or actors, to be more confident on the path they have chosen.

I think, if we have passion, ambition, and work in the arts professionally and seriously, opportunities and success will come.

- I think, if we are always satisfied and stop with what has been successful without daring to conquer new challenges, that means failure.

I am still willing to take on villain roles if the character is suitable and I am really interested. I just don't take on prison roles anymore, because for me, 20 years is more than enough. I need to move towards newer, more challenging things and prioritize more positive images on the small screen.

Usually, the characters that leave an impression or make the audience remember and "hate" on television are the villains, but that does not mean the protagonists will not have a role.

Aren't Mrs. Nga played by Ms. Thanh Quy (Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy - PV) in the movie "Love on a Sunny Day" or Mr. Son played by Mr. Trung Anh (People's Artist Trung Anh - PV) both positive roles but still move and leave a strong impression on the audience and make them very memorable?

Therefore, I believe that there is still a lot of room for the protagonist to perform. What is important is how the actor or artist exploits and creates their character, what the script is like, and how they coordinate with the director or screenwriter to do their best.

Looking back at the past year 2023, for Viet Anh, can it be summed up in two words: "satisfaction"?

- 2023 is a very lucky and successful year for me in my acting career when I was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and had a role wearing the military uniform as I wished.

With the role of Lieutenant Colonel Tran Dinh Trung in the film The War Without Borders, I have partly proven that I can portray positive colors. Thanks to this role, I was awarded a certificate of merit by the Minister of National Defense . Those are very important milestones and achievements for me.

However, I admit, I am only “satisfied” with my career! In life, I have many losses… but that is the price I have to pay, accept and trade off. Because I think, when I devote all my energy and time to something, I will lose something else.

Life is like that, no one is perfect and no one can succeed in every aspect. God does not give everyone everything. However, I still hope… at some point and stage, life will make up for what I have lost.

Maybe at that time, I will not devote my energy to roles and art anymore but will spend more time on family life, on myself and my loved ones.

"I find Quynh Nga impressive and attractive"

Many people looking at Viet Anh's current life think that he is both successful in his career and flourishing in love?

- I am not lucky enough to have a peaceful and happy family life, but in return, I receive love from the public, friends and relatives. I think, the important thing is that we need to know what is enough and be satisfied with what we have, don't be too ambitious.

Up until now, I have never put too much pressure on myself. I have always believed and accepted everything calmly. I have never set a goal to become a Meritorious Artist or a famous actor.

Simply, I like it and do it, and once I do it, I dedicate myself wholeheartedly and try my best. If the role is successful and loved, it is a joy and I accept and appreciate it. If it is not as expected, I do not break down.

I always believe that when we understand our reason for living, what we really want in life, then we are successful.

Since your second broken marriage, how many relationships have you had?

- I am not an adventurous person in love and even more afraid of adventure. So up to this point, after the breakup, I still have not had any love.

At the age of over 40, are you not afraid of loneliness?

- Obviously in this life, no one wants to be lonely or live alone. It's just that... sometimes, we have no other choice and are forced to live in undesirable circumstances.

I say that because after failures and broken relationships, I gradually lost faith in married life, even lost faith in my ability to see people.

Therefore, when you don't have enough confidence, faith in family life and the ability to see people, it's best to stay alone... for safety.

Because if I'm happy then it's okay but if I fail again then I'll hurt myself and others, that's something I don't want to happen again.

When talking about Viet Anh's love story, people often mention Quynh Nga. Many people say "there's no smoke without fire"?

- Showbiz is always characterized by... rumors. Every morning when we wake up, we have to face rumors and a lot of things falling from the sky. I'm used to rumors and the story of Viet Anh and Quynh Nga has been talked about a lot.

If it is a true story, the hidden needle will eventually come out, otherwise it will remain a rumor, no matter how you say or explain it, it will be difficult. So, let the truth be the truth, everything will prove itself.

Many people commented that Viet Anh is gallant, gallant and charismatic, and is a perfect match for the beautiful and feminine Quynh Nga. Viet Anh is the type of man that many girls like, and Quynh Nga is also the ideal woman of many boys. What do you think?

- Viet Anh is the type of man that many girls like but he is not necessarily Quynh Nga's type. Of course, I admit that I really like attractive and feminine women. Nga is the type of woman that I am very impressed with, find attractive and would really like to have, if possible (laughs).

"I am too picky sometimes to the point of being annoying"

Parents always hope their children will have a peaceful place to rest. Did you urge him to find new happiness?

- They never urged me, but my parents always wanted me to have a peaceful place and a fulfilling life. Especially my mother, she never put pressure on me, she just stood behind me and always supported me. That is what makes me always feel indebted to my parents. Hopefully in the near future, I will be able to do that.

Audiences still see Viet Anh as very gallant and polite on screen or in public. In real life, what bad qualities and shortcomings do you see in yourself?

- I think that in real life, people know me as a funny person. I am also an emotional person with my brothers, friends and people around me. Sincerity is one of my outstanding characteristics.

As for my bad qualities and shortcomings, if you regularly follow my TikTok channel, you will know immediately because those things are shown on my personal channel every day. Things I cannot hide.

First of all, his meticulousness is sometimes excessive, sometimes to the point of being annoying. My close friends are all afraid and say: "This man is so meticulous, he should probably live alone in the future (laughs).

Talking about his personal TikTok channel, I wonder what "force" made Viet Anh, from someone who doesn't like social media and started Facebook very late, become so interested in creating a TikTok channel and investing in it? Is he aiming for the image of TikToker Viet Anh?

- I think we need to follow the trend. Not only Viet Anh personally, all artists and ordinary people also own very effective TikTok channels.

People only know Viet Anh through his roles on TV, they don’t know what Viet Anh is like in daily life. TikTok and Facebook are places for people to know him better, thereby gaining sympathy. These channels also make my life more interesting. I think that’s a very good thing, why didn’t I use it sooner?

Of course, social networks always have two sides. It is important that we understand that the negative side should be limited and the positive side should be promoted.
