Vietnam is a bright spot of economic growth after the Covid-19 pandemic

On September 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Klaus Schwab on the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.

At the meeting, WEF President Klaus Schwab highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements in recent times, especially the comprehensive approach to macroeconomic management, helping the economy overcome challenges in the current international and regional context; assessing Vietnam as a bright spot of economic growth after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister congratulated the WEF on successfully organizing the Conference in Tianjin, contributing to affirming the prestige and role of the Forum in promoting dialogue, public-private cooperation, proposing new initiatives and models to contribute to bringing back global economic growth.

The Prime Minister also highly appreciated the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Vietnam and WEF for the 2023-2026 period; affirmed that they will coordinate to effectively implement all six areas of cooperation, including: innovation in the food and foodstuff sector, development of innovation skills and green transformation; industrial clusters towards net zero emissions; promoting cooperation to limit plastic waste; finance for energy transition; and cooperation in digital transformation and promoting the establishment of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In the context of food security issues, especially rice supply shortages, being a concern of many countries in the region, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is ready to support countries in ensuring stable supply and contributing to enhancing food security on a global scale.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will continue to participate and actively contribute to WEF initiatives and activities.

I hope that WEF will coordinate with Vietnam to host many activities bringing together leading experts and economic policymakers from around the world and the region to discuss issues of common concern, contributing to creating new driving forces, including the application of advances in science and technology to promote global economic recovery and growth.

On this occasion, Chairman Schwab respectfully invites the Prime Minister to attend the WEF Davos 2024 Conference.
