Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang and UN Deputy Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of peacekeeping , prioritizing increasing the proportion of female officers and soldiers.

This weekend, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix to discuss cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations in the field of peacekeeping.
At the meeting, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang thanked the United Nations and Deputy Secretary-General Lacroix personally for their continued support and assistance to Vietnam in effectively participating in peacekeeping activities over the past 10 years.
Reviewing the outstanding achievements and contributions of Vietnam's peacekeeping forces, the Ambassador emphasized that this is a high priority area in the Vietnam-United Nations partnership, making a practical contribution to international peace and security; affirming that Vietnam is ready to send more forces when requested by the United Nations, including military and police forces, with a priority on increasing the proportion of female peacekeeping officers and soldiers, and will continue to run for relevant positions at the United Nations Secretariat.
On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang requested that relevant agencies and units of the United Nations continue to support Vietnam in training and strengthening the capacity of its military and police peacekeeping forces to better meet requirements and contribute more effectively to UN peacekeeping operations in the new context.
For his part, Deputy Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix emphasized that peacekeeping operations will continue to be an important tool of the United Nations to address global security challenges in a volatile world ; he appreciated Vietnam's support and active, effective participation in UN peacekeeping operations in recent years.
The Deputy Secretary-General affirmed his support and readiness to assist Vietnam in building capacity and contributing more to peacekeeping operations, especially in ensuring that Vietnam is ready to deploy its first peacekeeping police unit when requested by the United Nations.
Mr. Lacroix also encouraged Vietnam to apply for senior positions at the United Nations Secretariat, as well as at peacekeeping missions; he welcomed Vietnam's commitments to achieving relevant UN goals and targets, especially increasing the proportion of female military personnel participating in peacekeeping operations.
