Vietnam Airlines said the incident happened about an hour after the plane took off on the afternoon of September 17.
A 57-year-old male passenger, Vietnamese nationality, suddenly showed signs of abnormal health. The flight crew immediately made an announcement to seek medical assistance. Three doctors on board volunteered to provide first aid, but the passenger's condition did not improve.
In the face of the emergency, the captain decided to divert to Istanbul to provide emergency medical care. The plane landed safely and the passengers were immediately transferred to a local medical facility for treatment.
The crew quickly coordinated with the authorities and ground services at Istanbul airport to complete procedures and refuel flight VN30 so that it could continue its journey and land in Ho Chi Minh City at 5:32 p.m. (local time) the same day. The flight arrived 3 hours and 20 minutes later than originally scheduled.
This is not the first time the airline has had to make an emergency landing due to medical reasons. Previously, on June 29, flight VN7569 from Hanoi to Cam Ranh also made an emergency landing in Da Nang to rescue a passenger. On May 5, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt landed in Erzurum (Turkey) in a similar situation.
Vietnam Airlines recommends that passengers proactively monitor their health before each trip and consult a doctor when necessary to ensure safety.
