The case of the teacher being exonerated, 8 former department leaders came to hear the conclusion: A 9-year journey to find justice

TPO - Teacher Nguyen Van Thuyet - a teacher at Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted (Ca Mau province) said that during the 9 years of filing complaints to clear his name, many colleagues and students also thought that he had done something wrong to be transferred to another school, and that his children were also discredited when they went to school, so they had to transfer their children to another locality to study.

Sharing with PV Tien Phong , teacher Nguyen Van Thuyet said that one day 9 years ago (2016), the leaders of Bac Lieu Specialized High School (now in Ca Mau province) called and asked him to apply for a transfer, with the reason being that he had been assessed as having an Average professional rating for 2 years (school years 2013-2014 and 2014-2015).

In addition to his time in the classroom, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyet is also 'famous' locally for developing family livestock farming.

“At that time, I was shocked because every year the professional team rated me as Excellent, passed the excellent teacher exam, and every year 100% of my students were promoted to the next grade. I was not sued, did not violate the law, and on the contrary, I regularly contributed to the local social security fund,” Mr. Thuyet recalled. At that time, many people even knew Mr. Thuyet because of his side job of raising termites and king cobras.

Although he did not voluntarily request to transfer schools, in September 2016, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyet was still surprised to receive a decision to transfer his work from the specialized school to Bac Lieu High School from the old Bac Lieu Department of Education and Training.

Feeling that he was transferred to another school unreasonably, Mr. Thuyet began a 9-year journey of complaining about the transfer decision of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu province. After Mr. Thuyet's first complaint, the Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu went to the specialized school to check, verify and determined that the school's assessment of Mr. Thuyet's professional standards was incorrect, so he requested a re-evaluation. However, Bac Lieu specialized school still rated Mr. Thuyet as Average. Therefore, Mr. Thuyet continued to complain to the department a second time. "This time, the department rejected my complaint," said Mr. Thuyet.

After that, Mr. Thuyet complained to the People's Committee of the old Bac Lieu province, the province transferred the petition to the Department of Education and Training for settlement. After waiting for a long time without any response from any agency, he sent the petition to the Provincial People's Committee a second time, the petition was transferred back to the Department of Education and remained 'silent'.

Mr. Thuyet then sent a complaint to the Ministry of Education and Training , the Government Office, the Central Inspection Committee... These petitions were then sent to the Provincial People's Committee, and the province returned them to the Department.

Seeing that his complaints still did not receive a satisfactory response, Mr. Thuyet turned to writing denunciations. However, like his complaints, his denunciations were also... in vain.

“During the process of complaining and denouncing, many colleagues and students did not understand and thought that I had done something wrong and was transferred to another school. My children were also discredited when they went to school, so I was forced to send them to Can Tho to study,” Mr. Thuyet confided.

Mr. Thuyet is famous for many models of raising crickets, termites, cobras, koi fish, and civets.

Until June 27, 2025 - a very special day for Mr. Thuyet for 9 years, when the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province concluded that, of the 3 accusations of Mr. Thuyet, 2 were correct and 1 was partially correct.

Regarding the content of the accusation that Mr. Thuyet was wrongly evaluated by the principal of Bac Lieu Specialized High School on professional standards, the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province concluded that the accusation was correct.

“Now that the accusation has been concluded, many relatives, students, colleagues, neighbors... have called and texted to congratulate and 'apologize', and even encouraged me to try harder. I feel very warm inside,” Mr. Thuyet shared with a smile.

The teacher who was cleared of wrongdoing said that at the time he was transferred from Bac Lieu High School for the Gifted, he had a master's degree and was doing research, while some of the school's leaders had lower degrees.

After receiving the decision to transfer his job, despite not agreeing and complaining, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyet still had to accept the transfer from the specialized school to Bac Lieu High School.

In the joy of being exonerated, Mr. Thuyet said: "I always believe that justice will prevail over all, the problem is whether I will persistently call for justice or not."

It is known that after 2016, after being transferred to another school and involved in a long-running lawsuit, teacher Thuyet raised crickets, termites, cobras, koi fish, civets, and grew mutated orchids...

"For me, life has thousands of paths to choose from. When my path to advancement in my teaching career was hindered, I chose the business path. My family life is still wonderful, my spirit is always optimistic and confident in life. Most importantly, my belief in justice has helped me become more steadfast," Mr. Thuyet shared.

According to the conclusion of the Chairman of the People's Committee of the former Bac Lieu province (the People's Committee of Ca Mau province continued to implement this conclusion after the merger), after determining that Mr. Thuyet's accusation was correct and partly correct, the Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Education and Training were assigned to clarify the responsibilities, nature and level of violations of each collective and individual under the Department; to take disciplinary action according to regulations against the leaders of the Department and the Principal of Bac Lieu Specialized High School; including the organizations and individuals who wrongly advised on the transfer of Mr. Thuyet from Bac Lieu Specialized High School to take disciplinary action.

Relevant agencies are also required to take measures to correct violations (including revoking documents issued in violation of regulations); coordinate with competent individuals and organizations to carry out all subsequent relevant processes and procedures.

After merging Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province has just decided to continue operating Bac Lieu Specialized High School under the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau province.

Regarding the case of the teacher who was cleared after 9 years, on the afternoon of July 25, at the announcement of the conclusion of the accusation related to teacher Nguyen Van Thuyet, many former leaders of the former Bac Lieu Department of Education and Training, former leaders of Bac Lieu Specialized High School at that time did not agree with the conclusion of the former Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province. They said that there were some contents that were only known when the conclusion was announced.
