Vice principal comes to school, parents take their children home

On December 4, Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Kim Ngan Commune, Quang Tri Province attracted attention again as parents once again came to pick up their children.

After the food poisoning incident that hospitalized 40 students on September 26, this is the fourth time parents of boarding students have decided to take their children out of school.

Giving the reason for taking their children home, some parents said it was because of the presence of Ms. D.THH, the school's Vice Principal. Many parents still maintain the opinion that if Ms. H. were at school, they would let their children stay home.

More than two months have passed since the incident in which more than 40 students were hospitalized due to poisoning symptoms, but the related issues have not yet been completely resolved, causing significant impacts on students' learning.

"The incident not only affects the learning but also impacts the psychology of teachers and students at the school, while they are preparing for the semester exams. Every time Ms. H. comes, the whole school is in an uproar, how can they concentrate on studying?", a teacher at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School shared.

Having a child studying here, Ms. Ho Thi Hang (born in 1982) is very worried because the scandals at school somehow affect the students.

"My child did not eat lunch at school and was not poisoned, but this noisy incident has still had a significant impact. I hope the government and the education sector will resolve this issue soon, and discipline whoever is at fault to stabilize the situation. If this continues, it will not be good," said Ms. Hang.

Why not solve the problem?

Many readers of Dan Tri newspaper expressed their concern as to why the authorities in Quang Tri have not yet completely resolved the above issue.

"I think the matter is too simple, it has been determined to be a food safety violation, why hasn't the government dealt with it completely yet?" reader Thuan Huynh Dac commented.

Reader Tran Duong wondered: "Why has this situation lasted so long, affecting the children's education and causing bad public opinion on the educational environment? The authorities need to quickly and decisively resolve this situation."

"I'm surprised that the government is taking so long to resolve this! Is this a big and complicated case that after nearly 3 months there is still no final conclusion? Is there a "no-go zone" here? I'm so curious!", reader Ngo Tung Lam questioned.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, a leader of Kim Ngan commune said that up to now, the authorities have not yet made a final conclusion about the incident that occurred at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, therefore, the locality has no basis to handle it.

According to the leader, the Kim Ngan commune government has proposed the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant departments and agencies to promptly resolve the issue. In the immediate future, Kim Ngan commune will coordinate with the school and local authorities to persuade parents to bring their children back to class to avoid affecting the curriculum.

"The commune's viewpoint is that whoever is at fault will be dealt with accordingly and will be very resolute in this matter, there is no tolerance or cover-up. However, we must have a conclusion from the authorities to have a basis, to see the extent of the violation, and then decide on a form of handling," the leader informed.

As Dan Tri reported, at around 8am on September 26, many students at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School showed symptoms of nausea and stomachache. Of these, 40 students had to be hospitalized for treatment.

As a result of testing food samples and specimens, authorities discovered a strain of Bacillus cereus bacteria that produces the toxin Non-haemolytic enterotoxin, which was identified as one of the causes of poisoning.

Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School has 75 boarding students, who eat and live at school from Monday to Friday every week. After the poisoning incident, many parents said they were no longer confident about eating and living at school, and lost faith in the school board, especially Ms. D.THH, Vice Principal, so they let their children stay home.

In response to public outrage, especially from parents, the Kim Ngan Commune authorities decided to temporarily suspend Ms. H. from her job. The parents then took their children back to class. After that, every time Ms. H. appeared at school, the parents came to pick up their children.

Kim Ngan Commune authorities also intervened and determined that the school had processed and provided food (braised pomfret) that did not meet technical standards and food safety regulations.

In addition, Principal Do Van My and two employees hired to directly cook at the school did not have certificates of training in food safety knowledge.
