Can Wi-Fi 7 be popular in Vietnam?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên04/09/2024

With many outstanding advantages, Wi-Fi 7 will likely change the network experience in Vietnam, but there are still many challenges to overcome.
Wi-Fi 7, also known as 802.11be, is the latest wireless networking technology standard with many outstanding improvements in speed and performance. This technology promises to bring a smoother network experience, especially for bandwidth-intensive applications such as 8K video streaming, online gaming, and virtual reality (VR). However, the question is whether Wi-Fi 7 will be popular in Vietnam in the near future?

Investment in infrastructure and equipment

Wi-Fi 7 is capable of delivering speeds of up to 46 Gbps, five times faster than Wi-Fi 6E. To use Wi-Fi 7, users need devices that support this standard, such as routers and connected devices such as smartphones and laptops. In Vietnam, Wi-Fi 7 routers are currently priced from about 2 million VND or more, providing better access to many users compared to previous versions that were more expensive. However, to fully exploit the benefits of Wi-Fi 7, users need a high-speed internet connection. Currently, although internet speeds in Vietnam are improving, high-bandwidth service packages are not widely available, which may limit the ability to take advantage of the full potential of Wi-Fi 7.

There are no regulations on frequency and management policies.

An important factor affecting the deployment of Wi-Fi 7 in Vietnam is frequency regulations. Wi-Fi 7 uses the 6 GHz band to increase speed and reduce interference, but the use of this band must comply with the regulations of each country. In Vietnam, the regulations on the 6 GHz band have not been specified and need to be approved by the authorities before it can be widely deployed. At present, there is no information on policies and regulations on the popularization of Wi-Fi 7 in Vietnam. The government needs to establish a legal framework to support the deployment of this new technology while ensuring national security.

Cyber safety and security need to be strengthened

The adoption of Wi-Fi 7 is not simply a device upgrade but also requires careful preparation for network safety and security. With high speed and the ability to connect many devices, Wi-Fi 7 also comes with a higher risk of cyber attacks. Increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks require stronger security measures, along with regular software updates and security solutions. Regulatory agencies and service providers in Vietnam need to work closely to develop advanced network security solutions to ensure safety when deploying Wi-Fi 7. In short, Wi-Fi 7 can become popular in Vietnam if the network infrastructure is upgraded and frequency regulations are clearer. Although device prices are decreasing, widespread deployment depends on improvements in technical infrastructure and network security. If these conditions are met, Wi-Fi 7 will soon become a popular choice for Vietnamese users.
