Nha Be Commune Aims Towards the Model of "Green Urban Area by the River"

(HTV) - Experts say Nha Be has the potential to become a riverside ecological urban area, a green defense line for Ho Chi Minh City against climate change, and at the same time needs specific mechanisms and resources to realize this orientation.

At the workshop "Planning and orientation for development of Nha Be commune in the new period", many experts said that Nha Be needs to be prioritized with budget allocation and specific mechanisms to develop riverside ecological urban models, playing the role of a "green shield" to respond to climate change for the city.

At the event, experts presented many in-depth papers on spatial structure, infrastructure management, landscape conservation, socio -economic development and preservation of local identity. Many opinions said that Nha Be, with its unique hydrological conditions and great impact from climate change, needs to orient development according to an ecological, adaptive and balanced urban model, instead of just expanding the urban area. In addition, the locality is recommended to exploit cultural, tourism and service advantages to build the image of a "green urban area by the river".

Ms. Tran Thu Hang - Director of the Department of Architectural Planning, Ministry of Construction highly appreciated the locality's initiative in organizing the workshop to create a scientific basis for planning work, and at the same time emphasized the urgency of ecological development orientation for Nha Be.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Chinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, commented that Nha Be area has all the conditions to become a typical ecological urban model, but needs a master plan to ensure harmony between economic and social development, protection of the natural environment and adaptation to climate change.

A representative of Nha Be Commune authorities said that the locality will fully absorb the opinions from experts, continue to review and complete the planning and submit it to the competent authority for consideration of overall adjustments. This is considered an important preparatory step to promote comprehensive development in the coming time.

Mr. Phan Ngoc Phuc - Party Secretary, Chairman of Nha Be Commune People's Council, proposed that the city consider special support mechanisms, prioritizing resources for the locality to implement planning orientation, infrastructure and appropriate development projects.

The results of the workshop are considered an important foundation to help Nha Be realize the goal of sustainable ecological urban development, contributing to the general development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City.
