Before the match against Armenia in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round in Europe on the evening of November 16, Portugal only needed to win to qualify for the next round. In this match, the "European Selecao" did not have the service of C. Ronaldo due to suspension.

However, Portugal excelled in a resounding 9-1 victory over Armenia, with Bruno Fernandes and Joao Neves both scoring hat-tricks. With this result, Portugal secured a ticket to the World Cup with 13 points after 6 matches in Group F.

Norway, like Portugal, also qualified for the World Cup. The Nordic team only needed to avoid losing to Italy by a margin of nine goals or more to complete their goal. However, Haaland and his teammates did better than that, winning 4-1 away from home. Thus, Norway will be participating in the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Before Portugal and Norway, Europe has already confirmed 3 teams with early World Cup tickets: England, France and Croatia. In the next few days, the Old Continent will determine 7 more official places (total 12 places). By March next year, the remaining 4 places will be determined through the play-off round.

Italy are facing the risk of missing out on the World Cup for the third consecutive time, having to play in the play-off round. In the 2018 and 2022 World Cup qualifiers, the Azzurri lost to Sweden and North Macedonia.

In Africa, Nigeria lost to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final to qualify for the Intercontinental Play-off. After 120 minutes, the two teams drew 1-1. In the end, the Democratic Republic of Congo won on penalties.
