Previously, this product was also exported to the Russian Federation and was effectively sold through domestic distribution channels such as markets and supermarkets. This is clear evidence of the effectiveness of supply chain linkages, connecting production with product consumption in Son La.
Currently, Son La province has over 300 hectares of dragon fruit plantations, concentrated in the districts of Mai Son, Thuan Chau, Yen Chau, and Son La city, with an annual production of nearly 5,000 tons. Thuan Chau district has the largest dragon fruit plantation.
In 2018, Thuan Chau district began building a supply chain for red-fleshed dragon fruit by linking with Ngoc Hoang Cooperative to provide seedlings, guide farmers on cultivation techniques, and guarantee product purchase. This is one of eight production linkage chains for sustainable fruit tree development in Thuan Chau district.
To date, the district has 50 hectares of red-fleshed dragon fruit, of which 44 hectares are linked in a supply chain, mainly concentrated in the communes of Chiềng Pha, Phổng Lái, Phổng Lăng, and Mường É. In 2024, the estimated dragon fruit harvest is over 500 tons, with an average selling price of 30,000 to 35,000 VND/kg.
In addition to continuing to maintain production linkages for products, including dragon fruit, Thuan Chau district is continuing to cooperate with the Provincial Department of Science and Technology to develop a brand for Son La dragon fruit with specific geographical growing areas. This will help the local product increasingly establish its brand in domestic and international markets, contributing to increasing income for the people.
According to the plan, in addition to supplying dragon fruit to the domestic market, Thuan Chau district, Son La province, also aims to export 60 tons of red-fleshed dragon fruit through official channels to the UK, France, Russia, Italy, some Middle Eastern countries, and the EU in 2024. Successfully exporting red-fleshed dragon fruit through official channels to European markets will contribute to creating a stable market, increasing product value, and promoting sustainable development for this crop, while striving to achieve the district's export value target of 325 billion VND for 2024.
According to statistics from Son La province's agricultural sector, the province has established, maintained, and developed 280 safe agricultural, forestry, and aquatic product chains. In addition, 294 planting area codes have been issued to 43 establishments. 27 products have been granted trademark protection bearing the province's geographical name; 98 establishments are applying valid VietGAP and GlobalGAP good agricultural production practices; the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) program has attracted the participation of many businesses, cooperatives, and households; to date, the province has 151 OCOP products certified with 3 to 5 stars.
Supply chain linkages bring many benefits to businesses, cooperatives, producers, domestic consumers, and those involved in exports. Through this, sustainable agricultural production and consumption value chains are created, agricultural science and technology are widely applied to production, and high-quality products are produced for the market.
