Attending the meeting were Ms. Naomi May Cook, Development Cooperation Counsellor, Australian Embassy in Vietnam; representatives of the Australian donor in Vietnam; leaders of the Departments of Internal Affairs, Finance, Industry and Trade, Ethnic Minorities and Religion, Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Agriculture and Environment of Son La province; and members of the Steering Committee, Management Board, and consultants of the GREAT 2 Son La Project.

The GREAT 2 Son La project, funded by a non-refundable grant from the Australian Government, will be implemented from June 2022 to 2027 to enhance the economic empowerment of ethnic minority women. The project's approach is market development to strengthen the economic empowerment of ethnic minorities. The project has three main components: developing market systems in the agriculture and tourism sectors; a strategy to support four key areas: access to finance, digital transformation, women-owned business and cooperative development, and behavior change communication; and support for policy development, refinement, and implementation. The GREAT 2 Son La project is expected to allocate AUD 8,075,000 to fund cooperation agreements with partners to implement sub-projects.

To date, 11 sub-projects are underway and 2 proposals are awaiting approval from the Investment Board. By the end of November 2025, the disbursement rate of the 10 sub-projects currently underway reached 34% of the total committed partner cooperation budget. At the meeting, the Steering Committee assessed the achievements, analyzed the difficulties and challenges the project faced, and discussed the proposal to supplement the budget with AUD 1,240,000 for 7 sub-projects identified as effective and with potential for expansion to enhance results. Solutions were proposed to accelerate progress, strengthen cooperation to promote project implementation, and enhance communication about the project to the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Naomi May Cook, Development Cooperation Counsellor at the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, highly appreciated the project's implementation results in Son La province. She also affirmed Australia's continued support for Son La province in the project's implementation. Representatives of the GREAT 2 Son La Project Steering Committee committed to adhering to the agreed schedule so that the people can benefit as soon as possible.
