Entering the hot season, the risk of forest fires increases, so the Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board has proactively deployed fire prevention and fighting solutions.
The Management Board has established 10 forest fire fighting teams with 237 participants; arranged 40 duty points and watchtowers to detect forest fires early in the assigned forest areas, including 5 main duty points at the watchtowers of stations with wide observation range. The unit also established 19 checkpoints to control people entering and leaving key forest fire areas and has a book to record information of people entering and leaving the forest.
The Management Board has also established a diagram of the deployment of forces and means for forest fire fighting. The diagram shows the current status of forest types, types of firebreaks, firefighting routes, traffic routes near the forest and in the forest so that when a fire occurs, vehicles can easily approach the fire. To date, the Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board has deployed 66.4 km of firebreaks, 94.6 km of firefighting routes, and cleared 220 hectares of vegetation to reduce combustible materials.
To promptly detect forest fire risks, the Management Board has assigned clear schedules at forest protection stations and fire watchtowers. On hot days, the stations will take turns to be on duty at the watchtowers 24/7. At the fence posts, there will always be guards and a logbook to keep track of people entering and leaving the forest.
Mr. Nguyen Hai Van - Deputy Head of Hong Linh Protective Forest Management Board said: "Because the management unit's area is large, over 19 communes and wards in 4 districts and towns and there are many roads leading to the forest; surrounding the protective forest are houses, making it difficult to protect and prevent forest fires. In particular, on Hong Linh mountain there are 32 pagodas, temples, shrines, hermitages, many tombs of clans, people come to burn incense, so in the dry season there is always a high risk of forest fires. Therefore, in addition to the efforts of the management force, we hope that people will raise their awareness in protecting the forest and strictly comply with regulations on forest fire prevention".
