The Deccan Herald reported that the horrific accident occurred on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road in a remote location in Anjaw, Arunachal Pradesh, India, on the night of December 8th. The truck, carrying workers from the Gelapukhuri tea plantation, plunged into a ravine.
A spokesperson in Guwahati said on December 11 that army task forces had joined the search and rescue effort on December 10. By December 11, the bodies of 18 of the 22 workers from Assam had been found.

"The accident site, about 12 km from Chaglagam, is located in rugged terrain with limited accessibility. One worker who miraculously survived was the one who reported the accident," the announcement stated.

"After four hours of effort to descend to the scene and search, the truck was found at a depth of approximately 200 meters in a ravine that is difficult to access and invisible from helicopters. Eighteen bodies were recovered," the military statement added.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident.
