At 4:00 AM on June 19th, Ms. Cat Diem was present at the Practice Primary School in District 3, waiting to buy application forms for her child to enroll in first grade.
On June 19th, the Practice Primary School affiliated with Saigon University released application forms for first grade. The process started at 7:30 AM, but many parents had already lined up along the school gate since early morning.
Ms. Cat Diem from District 3 said she arrived at the school at 4 am, when it was still pitch dark, but more than 20 parents were already lined up. "The first people to arrive were from 2 am," Ms. Diem said. Ms. Diem was delighted to have gotten number 28, placing her in the safe group for registration because the school is only accepting 175 students this year.
"I'm a civil servant, so I'm eligible for priority admission to the school, but I'm still worried that the application forms will sell out quickly, so I have to go queue up in the middle of the night to be sure," Ms. Diem shared.

Arriving at the school gate at 4:45 AM, Ms. Bich Ngoc from District 8 was number 75. According to Ms. Ngoc, the school's organization was very good; security guards were present to hand out numbers and record the names of parents and students from the beginning, so there was no pushing or shoving. At 7:30 AM, the school called in groups of 10 people in order according to their numbers to receive the application forms. Each set cost 50,000 VND.
"The school has complete facilities, a spacious playground, and innovative teaching methods with less pressure, so I want my child to attend. Waiting in line early isn't a problem either," said Ms. Ngoc.
The Practice Primary School announces that it will accept students in the following order of priority: Children of officials and employees of Saigon University; Children of individuals or units that have collaborated with and contributed to the school's development; Children whose father or mother is a state official or civil servant; and then the remaining preschool children. The admission results will be announced by the school on July 15th.

A school representative stated that due to limited facilities, they are only enrolling 175 first-grade students. The representative explained that unlike sixth-grade admissions, which can be based on scores, foreign language proficiency, or aptitude tests, first-grade admissions are based solely on the school's priority groups, and applications are distributed in order. The school is planning to renovate its facilities to increase enrollment in the coming years.
The Saigon University Practice Primary School, established in 2019, is one of 16 primary schools in the city implementing an advanced, internationally integrated school model. Schools following this model must maintain a class size of no more than 35 students, with two sessions per day. All teachers must be able to communicate in English and possess basic computer skills. Regarding outcomes, a minimum of 50% of students must achieve certificates in English and computer skills according to international standards. Tuition is 1.5 million VND per month, with other fees (boarding, transportation) subject to agreement.
