Applying artificial intelligence in vocational schools: A significant challenge.

GD&TĐ - Many vocational schools are applying artificial intelligence in teaching and management, opening up opportunities to improve training quality, personalize the learning process, and optimize operational processes.

However, these institutions still face numerous challenges, ranging from infrastructure limitations and investment costs to faculty capacity and an incomplete legal framework.

Promoting the application of technology

From the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year, Ho Chi Minh City International College will officially apply artificial intelligence (AI) in management and teaching, aiming to improve the quality of training and meet the practical needs of digital transformation in education .

Mr. Nguyen Dang Ly, the school's principal, said: "During the summer break, we organized training for all staff, employees, and lecturers on the application of AI. Prior to that, the school had established a team of full-time lecturers to research and practice AI applications in lectures, student management, and optimizing office work."

Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City International College has partnered with a technology company to develop an application for managing students from enrollment to graduation. This application helps lecturers and administrators monitor their children's learning progress, allows parents to track their children's academic results and attendance, and enables early identification of students at risk of dropping out.

From there, the school collaborates with parents to investigate the causes, support students in overcoming difficulties, and minimize absenteeism. In addition, the application reminds students of tuition payment progress, schedule changes, and warns them about weak courses, helping students to be proactive in their studies.

"When applying AI to management and teaching, the school is like conducting an in-depth test to identify the strengths and weaknesses of its students. From there, we can develop appropriate lectures and teaching methods," Mr. Nguyen Dang Ly shared.

From a business perspective, Mr. Tran Dai Nghia, General Director of Minh Duc Construction Group, commented: “Currently, industries are undergoing a strong transformation towards digitalization. The application of AI helps save costs, improve accuracy, and enhance work efficiency. Therefore, students who have early access to modern technology will reduce retraining costs for businesses and increase job opportunities after graduation.”

In reality, many young workers entering the market still lack practical skills and process-oriented thinking, forcing businesses to retrain them from scratch, directly impacting work progress. This leads to a situation where many businesses are hesitant to hire inexperienced individuals or only offer low salaries to recent graduates.

In the construction industry, when technology is integrated into teaching, students have the opportunity to access virtual simulations of construction sites, workplace safety training, etc. The learning process does not require students to be excellent from the start, but only to master the basic procedures. As a result, when entering the real world, students can already visualize potential situations and quickly integrate into the job.

“Previously, students’ skills depended heavily on individual instructors, each with their own teaching methods, resulting in inconsistent output quality. Now, the application of technology in teaching helps to standardize training; simulations and processes are standardized. Learners can therefore identify their weaknesses and identify steps they haven’t performed correctly, allowing them to correct them in a timely manner,” Mr. Tran Dai Nghia emphasized.

Challenges range from infrastructure to human resources.

To apply AI technology to teaching, Hanoi High-Tech College proactively requested funding from the city to invest in infrastructure. As a result, the school's facilities basically meet the requirements of modern teaching. However, the biggest challenge remains the lack of standardized learning equipment for students and trainees, hindering the installation of learning software. Furthermore, legal documents regarding the organization and operation of activities in the digital environment are still unclear.

Associate Professor Pham Xuan Khanh - the school's principal, shared: "Currently, there is no proper guidance document on recognizing online training methods, leading to many difficulties in organizing entirely online training or in collaboration with businesses."

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Dang Ly stated that many lecturers still follow old methods, finding it difficult to access new technologies, while the cost of investing in infrastructure is quite expensive, thus limiting the implementation of technology applications in teaching and management.

To address the challenges of infrastructure and human resources when applying artificial intelligence to teaching, Hoa Sen Vocational College has partnered with many businesses and technology companies, creating opportunities for students to learn hands-on and access modern technologies.

Mr. Le Thien Huy, the school's principal, stated: "Currently, relying solely on the school's budget to purchase technology and invest in infrastructure is insufficient. Therefore, in order for students and faculty to access new technologies in teaching and learning, we are forced to cooperate with businesses."

I hope that ministries, departments, and international organizations, in addition to allocating funds to public schools, can also provide some support to private schools. This will help schools have more resources to invest in facilities and improve the quality of training. At the same time, there should be an open mechanism for vocational schools to cooperate with research institutes and businesses, creating opportunities for students and lecturers to access new technologies.”

The application of AI in teaching helps lecturers proactively enhance their pedagogical and research capabilities. When technology is integrated into virtual reality classrooms, diverse practice rooms, and online learning management systems, students become more engaged, and the learning environment becomes more interactive and fosters creativity. - Mr. Le Thien Huy - Principal of Hoa Sen Vocational College
