Ho Chi Minh City: Two male students are being considered for 1-2 weeks of suspension from school, with reduced conduct, and their friends who filmed the video will also receive disciplinary action, after a fight at Dong Da Secondary School.
According to Mr. Lam Huy Hoang, Principal of Dong Da Secondary School, two students of class 9A5 got into a fight at noon on October 25. The conflict stemmed from a male student dropping 500,000 VND, which his friend picked up but gave to someone else. The male student who dropped the money asked his friend many times but his friend did not answer, so he jumped on him and beat him up.
At this time, a student was filming a video and many other students were watching. Because it was time to take a lunch break, the teachers and supervisors did not discover it in time.
Mr. Hoang said that on October 29, the family of the student who beat his friend apologized and promised to pay for medical expenses for the beaten student.
"The student who beat his friend regretted his actions. The family of the beaten boy also hopes that both of them can study normally," said Mr. Hoang.
On the evening of October 30, the Binh Thanh Departmentof Education and Training proposed a solution, requiring Dong Da Secondary School to establish a disciplinary council to deter and educate students. According to the department's instructions, the two students directly involved in the incident will be considered for temporary suspension from school for 1-2 weeks and have their first semester conduct grades reduced. Students who stood by and watched and filmed the video will be disciplined depending on the severity of the violation, and may be reprimanded and their parents notified.
During the flag-raising ceremony, the principal must state the incident to deter, remind, and educate students in the whole school to prevent similar incidents from happening.
The principal of Dong Da Secondary School was also criticized. The Binh Thanh Department of Education and Training requested all schools in the area to pay attention to management, student psychological counseling, life skills education, and prevention of school violence.
